Bottom Line

The Airways Hotel Victoria
London was refurbished with a fresh style that's quite contemporary for a budget hotel. The 37 guest rooms, spread out over three floors with no elevators, have chocolate pinstriped carpet, crisp white bed linens, and flat-screen TVs. A continental breakfast and Wi-Fi are free. The location is key, guests are a five-minute walk to Victoria Coach station which connects to Heathrow International Airport, central London, and the greater United Kingdom. For a comparable rate on the same street
guests should check out the Georgian House, a family run bed-and-breakfast
with boutique-style rooms.

Scene

A charming mid-Victorian building

The Airways Hotel Victoria London is a mid-Victorian building in an architecturally preserved area of London. In the lobby, classic design features include an ornate ceiling rose, bay windows with painted wooden shutters, and a large glass chandelier hanging overhead. The lobby lounge consists of a large reception counter, vending machines, and tourism pamphlets. Black leather couches are a bit worn, but Union Jack themed pillows smarten them up. Guests, a combination of families, business, and leisure travelers, have limited places to gather, with basic lounge seating in the hotel lobby and a modest breakfast room.

Location

An eight-minute drive to the queen's residence at Buckingham Palace

The hotel is built on a quiet, leafy street with several neighboring bed-and-breakfast hotels. The Airways Hotel has a multitude of transport links within walking distance: It's a seven-minute walk from London Victoria with Circle, District, Victoria, and railway line connections, and a five-minute walk from Victoria Coach station which connects to Heathrow International Airport. In eight minutes by taxi, guests can reach Big Ben, Westminster Abbey; where both Princess Dianne and Kate were wed, and Buckingham Palace, the residence of the queen. For local nightlife, Buckingham Palace road is a nine-minute walk from the hotel and hosts a selection of quintessential English pubs and wine bars that are generally occupied with after work corporate types and tourists thirsty for a tipple.

Rooms

Refurbished rooms that are impeccably presented

Renovated rooms in the Airways Hotel Victoria London are chic and sophisticated with pinstriped chocolate carpets, wooden headboards, and crisp white linens. Bathrooms are equally handsome with large gray tiles laid from floor to ceiling and powerful showers. Toiletries and hairdryers are provided. All rooms have windows that open, quality Hypnos mattresses, digital flat-screen TVs, coffee- and tea-making facilities, and European adapters. Safes, mini-fridges, ironing boards, and fans can be requested via the hotel's 24-hour reception. There are several room configurations available including Double, Quad, Single, Triple, and Twin Rooms, though the Single Rooms are tiny and Quads are a tight squeeze for four people. Travelers should note, rooms are spread over three floors and there isn't an elevator.

Features

Free Wi-Fi and a continental breakfast

Features are quite limited at this intimate budget hotel. There's a free continental breakfast which consists of cold cuts, cheese, croissants, cereal, yogurt, toast, and coffee, but no full restaurant or bar to provide other meals. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
