The Beach House Resort

Set amid an appealing tropical garden on the popular southeastern stretch of the island, the Beach House Resort offers a range of rooms to suit a variety of budgets. Lower-category rooms are ideal for budget-seekers, while two-bedroom units with private pools appeal to honeymooners. Rooms are separated by a dirt road from the restaurant and beach, and the atmosphere is relaxed and quiet on-site. Unfortunately, while the hotel's design is bright, attractive, and beachy, some spaces are showing wear. The resort is looking to spruce these spaces up during renovations that are ongoing until June 2019, but this means guests won't have access to the lovely common pool. Travelers may want to wait to visit until after refurbishments are finished, or book a room with a private plunge pool. Couples and groups of friends are the primary clientele.

Right in the thick of the action on a beachside strip lined by restaurants and bars, the Beach House Resort is located on the bustling southeastern strip of Gili Trawangan -- the most popular of the three islands neighboring mainland Lombok. Gili Trawangan can be reached by a 15-minute speedboat ride from mainland Lombok, and there are regular flights to Lombok International Airport from Bali, Jakarta, and Surabaya, as well as Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. The resort can organize a pick-up service from the airport to the marina at Teluk Nara (two hours). Guests arriving at Gili Trawangan’s ferry terminal can get a cidomo (horse-drawn carriage) to the resort, or walk around 10 minutes. Alternatively, daily speedboats from Bali take around one hour from Padang Bai or two and a half hours from Serangan. Gili Trawangan is compact, which means it can be circled in around an hour and a half by horse cart or bicycle, the latter of which can be rented from the resort. There are no motorbikes or cars on the island.

The Beach House Resort caters to most budgets with rooms ranging from standard hotel units to two-bedroom villas with private pools. The design is similar across the board, consisting of contemporary, neutral-tone decor, beige tile floors, and white walls and linens, plus some Indonesian bed runners, throw pillows, and artwork. Some wear and tear is evident, however, and furnishings can feel sparse in lower-category units. All rooms have furnished outdoor spaces, air-conditioning, safes, minibars, tea- and coffee-making facilities, free Wi-Fi, and flat-screen TVs. Villas add sitting areas and some have private plunge pools, but they don't have full kitchens like the website says. Rooms have either indoor or outdoor bathrooms with rainfall showers and toiletries. 

As its name implies, The Beach House Resort is set along a lovely stretch of sand. It also features a small 13-meter (43-foot) L-shaped swimming pool lined by blue loungers and umbrellas. Unfortunately, the pool will be closed for renovations from June 18, 2018 to June 2019. While the property lacks a gym and spa, the resort can arrange in-room treatments, as well as a host of activities including diving and snorkeling. The two-story, all-day beachside restaurant and bar has simple tables and chairs directly on the white sand. All rates include a well-reviewed breakfast buffet with regional and Western fare. Many guests rave about the nightly barbecues with local seafood and imported meats accompanied by a salad bar. The adjacent bar serves a variety of beer, cocktails, and wine. Wi-Fi is free.
