Poised like a pair of off-kilter monoliths, the tilting towers that make up this four-pearl property sit across from one of the world’s largest trade show and convention centers. Opened in 2009, the hotel immediately achieved “landmark” status; however, the public areas inside -- including multiple restaurants and bars -- aren’t nearly so adventurous in their style. Ditto for the 398 contemporary but comparatively bland guest rooms, all of which features minibars, plasma TVs and free Wi-Fi. The isolated location, northwest of the city center, is another downside (at least for those who want to squeeze in some sightseeing). If you prefer an upscale business-oriented alternative right in the thick of things, consider its sister property -- the NH Collection Milano President -- instead.
Scene
An architecturally adventurous hotel targeted at business types
Created by renowned French architect Dominique Perrault and run by the NH Group (a respected Madrid-based brand), this place has a high-design exterior that sets it apart from your standard business hotel. Its twin towers (one 15-stories high, the other 17) lean apart at a five-degree angle. The buildings, moreover, are encased in black glass-ceramics and randomly punctuated by windows of assorted size. The helter-skelter end result is arresting -- though some might unkindly say it looks like the work of a distracted child. By contrast, the dark lobby seems sleek but uninspired. It’s not particularly comfortable either. For instance, the black tufted seating is oh-so contemporary but mostly backless and hence doesn’t invite lounging. The business travelers who typical occupy them are too busy to linger long anyway -- especially during exhibitions when the FieraMilano complex, that's just across the way, is buzzing.
Location
Northwest of the city, right across from the massive FieraMilano complex
This landmark hotel, located between the towns of Rho and Pero, is a practical choice for business travelers because it sits opposite one of the world’s largest trade show and convention venues; otherwise, however, the barren area has little to offer except for ample parking lots. For corporate types who wish to savor Milan’s big-city amenities in their off hours, the Rho Fiera Metro Station is a 10-minute walk away: from there the onward journey takes at least 30 minutes. Guests who'd rather drive will find rental cars and free parking on-site; private airport transfers to Milan Malpensa or Milan Linate can also be arranged through the hotel.- 10-minute walk to the Rho Fiera Metro Station
Rooms
Comfy, contemporary rooms in a wide range of sizes
From the smallest single room to the largest suite -- covering 172 to 538 square-feet respectively -- all of the modern, air-conditioned accommodations here feature laptop safes, minibars, plasma TVs tuned to international channels, free Wi-Fi, and chic bathrooms with walk-in showers or generously-sized shower/tub combinations. All but the lowest two categories also offer bathrobes and coffee/tea-making equipment. The minimalist decor remains consistent across the board, too, with blond wood floors and white bed linens forming a neutral palette that’s typically enlivened by wallpapered accents walls, and mod, minty green desk chairs. The largest options, however, do come with added benefits. Quads and suites, for example, boast bigger bathrooms with separate showers, tubs and double sinks; the latter has a dedicated living area with a sleeper sofa as well. Guests traveling with children will be happy to know that, despite the business emphasis, this hotel does contain family-friendly rooms; cute kids’ toiletry sets are included and cribs or cots can be added on request.
Features
Expect modern meeting facilities plus multiple dining and drinking options.
Not surprisingly, business facilities rank among the top features here -- including a business center plus 17 multifunction meeting rooms with up-to-date audio-visual equipment, tech support, and in-house catering available. When an antidote to work is required, guests can break a sweat in the small 15th-floor fitness center or kick back in the bar (there’s one on the ground floor of each tower). In addition, the hotel has a contemporary à la carte restaurant -- NHube -- which serves a seasonal Mediterranean menu; during peak periods, a second buffet-style eatery is open for dinner only. Rates include a free continental breakfast buffet served each morning, and room service is available around the clock. Other on-site features include a 24-hour front desk with multilingual staff; concierge, dry cleaning/laundry and on-request babysitting service; free newspapers in the lobby and Wi-Fi throughout.
