Hotel Belvedere is a 12-room family-owned property with a cottage-style feel and rooms ranging from an economy option with street views to an apartment-style love nest with a private terrace overlooking the water. You won't find much in the way of public features -- there's no swimming pool, fitness center, or business center -- but there is a small bar area for cocktails and pretty garden with shaded lounge areas.

Hotel Belvedere looks and feels homey. The owners run the property and take pride in greeting guests and offering personalized services such as directions and restaurant recommendations. Lake views are a real standout, especially from the cozy breakfast room. The space is a bit old-fashioned with orange floral tablecloths that match valances over the windows, but wooden ceiling beams and views of the lake are charming touches. There's a pretty outdoor terrace shaded with white umbrellas. The bar is so small you just might miss it. Look for lined up liquor bottles in the corner near the front desk.

In the heart of Bellagio on Lake Garda
Lake views and lake access are the main draw at Hotel Belvedere. The hotel is located at the top of a small hill overlooking world famous Lake Garda but it's about a 30-minute walk to the historic old town with all the shops and restaurants. Parking in front of the hotel is free and very convenient. The Milan Malpensa AIrport is about an hour and a half drive from Hotel Belvedere, though the mountain roads near Bellagio aren't for the faint of heart.

Clean and comfortable with (some) private terraces and views of Lake Garda
Rooms at Hotel Belvedere definitely aren't fancy but each is spotlessly clean and comes standard with a flat-screen TV, air-conditioning, and a minibar. Bathrooms have a lot of personality: look for wooden decorative tiles in the shapes of plants and animals, or hand-painted yellow flowers above the single sinks. The love nest suite is a real standout with a lodge-style lower living room that includes walls made of rocks, a decorative white fireplace, and beautiful private terrace filled with potted plants. Some guests have complained about the water pressure in the bathrooms. It may be worth the upgrade for a room with a small furnished balcony overlooking the lake.

Hotel Belvedere is a small property without much in the way of features. Lunch and dinner aren't served, but the daily breakfast gets excellent reviews with strong Italian coffee. Bikes are free to use and the lake is just behind the hotel -- some guests report fun swimming conditions. There's a tiny bar area that holds liquor bottles but guests are best served taking a cocktail to the outdoor patio overlooking the lake.
