Z Hotel Liverpool is a simple budget property in Central Liverpool, close to many local shops, bars, and restaurants. With bespoke furniture and modern decor, this boutique hotel has an eye for style and gives off a very chic and stylish vibe. However, the 92 tiny rooms lack closets and privacy with frosted glass-walled bathrooms. It does have beautiful views of the city (especially on the upper floors), however, and is just a stone's throw away from the Matthews Street bar district and Lime Street Station, as well as Albert Dock and Liverpool One shopping complex.
Scene
Sleek and simple hotel attracts those on short stays who spend little time in the rooms.
Z Hotel certainly knows how to put a room together. With spaces that have symmetrical lines, earthy colors, and with the inclusion of concrete and glass, Z Hotel's style remains simple yet sophisticated. Furniture is designer, and though the spaces in the hotel are relatively small they have utility to them. Nonetheless, considering the lack of features and tight spaces, most guests are in just for a short stay.
Location
It'd be hard to be more central.
Z Hotel certainly has a prime location, close to many attractions and with easy links to public transportation. Only a minute's walk from Moorfields station, guests can easily get to the Lime Street rail station, as well as Chester. The direct area also contains many different cafes, bars, and shopping (especially at the Liverpool One), and due to its central location, Z Hotel is just a five to 10-minute walk from almost every main attraction in the city including the Matthews Street bar district, Albert Dock, Liverpool Museum, and the Tate Liverpool.
Rooms
Small -- but smart -- rooms
One of the biggest issues with Z Hotels (including their London properties) is the size of their rooms, which have a compact design that appeals mostly to short-term guests and people who want an upscale-feeling hotel for a lower price. If you can overlook the compactness of the rooms, you'll find that they come with plenty of extras, and have been designed in a way to maximize utility. Upper-floor rooms have absolutely wonderful views of the city (better than those at almost all nearby hotels in its price-bracket) and all rooms include free refreshments and snacks. Wall-mounted flat-screen TVs are included with SkyTV, which has a wide array of free movies and sports channels to choose from. One of the only other downsides of the rooms are their bathrooms, which are contained in a glass enclosure inside the room. This for some feels a little intrusive, and it certainly doesn't make for much privacy.
Features
Extras are few and far between
Z Hotel Liverpool has a main floor lobby/cafe/bar, elevators, hallways, and rooms. That's about it. Whereas other hotels in the area offer large lobbies, lounges, restaurants, meeting rooms, Z Hotel doesn't. But since the hotel doesn't offer extra services, they obviously don't charge for them, and therefore the rates are much fairer for what you're getting (which is strictly accommodation). If you can wrap your head around the bare-bones service, and all you need is a room, then this is an ideal spot.
