Bottom Line

The two-and-a-half-pearl Campanile Liverpool is a
budget-friendly hotel on the waterfront, a brief walk from many attractions, restaurants, and pubs. Its 100 rooms are generally clean and comfortable enough, but they're small, tired, and sparsely decorated, and lack air-conditioning. Free on-site
parking and a restaurant/bar that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner add value
and overall convenience for guests. Rates are competitive, but there are other choices
in equally convenient locations such as the Premier Inn Liverpool Albert Dock
Hotel, with slighter higher rates but a bit nicer rooms.

Scene

Busy hotel popular with both tourists and local bachelor/bachelorette parties

The Campanile Liverpool is a busy three-story budget hotel that hosts both tourists and locals who like to have weekend bachelor/bachelorette parties. The reception area is small, with white
walls and a white curved front desk that add brightness. Photos of area landmarks
adorn the walls and there are plenty of brochures advertising area attractions. With no seating areas, the lobby serves really just as a place to check in and grab some brochures. Note that there are no elevators. A casual restaurant has the same reddish brown
tile floors as the lobby, along with a curved, wooden bar against a back wall.
The open space has lots of light from floor-to-ceiling windows with waterfront
views. It’s the hotel’s center of activity, with various seating arrangements.
Large, wall-mounted flat-screen TVs keep patrons updated on local news, and tall, bright
planters with tropical plants add a splash of color. There are a few picnic tables outside the rear of the restaurant overlooking the waterfront.

Location

On the waterfront at Queen’s Dock, walking distance to many attractions

The hotel is on a busy street along the Liverpool waterfront
at Queen’s Dock, about a two-minute walk from a metro station. Albert Dock and
The Beatles Story are an eight-minute walk away, and the city’s Central Metro
Station, Liverpool One shopping center, and Liverpool Cathedral can all be reached in about 15 minutes on foot. The Echo Arena Liverpool and BT Convention Centre are about a 10-minute walk away. The University of Liverpool is 14 minutes by metro, and the
Liverpool John Lennon Airport is 25 to 30 minutes away by car, taxi, or metro. A rental
car office sits adjacent to the hotel, and two chain fast-food restaurants are
across the street (about a two-minute walk). Many other restaurants, bars, and
nightclubs are within a five-minute walk of the hotel.

Rooms

Small, generally clean rooms, but a bit dated and utilitarian

Rooms are on the small side but clean, with a simple, tidy
decor that features dark brown carpet, white, sparsely decorated, walls, and matching light
brown headboards, night stands, and small corner closets. Curved, wall-mounted counters hold flat-screen TVs and double as desks. Rooms also have electric kettles with tea/coffee supplies, but they lack air-conditioning. Brown drapes cover the windows that offer either a
waterfront or city street view. Guests report the rear (waterfront view) rooms
are quieter, but noise inside the hotel is noticeable, especially on weekends when there are plenty of bachelor/bachelorette parties here. There
are 65 rooms with double beds and 35 with two twin beds; twin rooms lack nightstands. Bathrooms are small and have limited counter space. Blue tile
floors and beige tile surround the shower/tub combos. Instead of travel-size toiletries, the bathrooms have wall-mounted shampoo
and soap dispensers. As with the rooms, bathrooms look tired and the tile grout could use a
thorough scrubbing in some rooms.

Features

Free on-site parking, restaurant and bar, tennis court, Wi-Fi, and meeting space

Features include free on-site parking in a secure lot, and while Wi-Fi is available, it's only free if guests book directly through the hotel website. The 40-seat, casual
restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner and has its own bar. Note that breakfast is not included in the
room rate. There is a tennis court guests can use freely, and meeting space for up to 20
people.
