The 182-room Hotel Olissippo Oriente is an upscale property on the eastern coast of the Tagus River, an excellent location for tourists, with close access to the Lisbon Oceanarium, Vasco da Gama mall, and public transportation. The hotel's modern, airy design gives it an understated elegance. Stylish rooms have flat-screen TVs, safes, minibars, and some suites have partial river views. A trendy cafe, restaurant, and bar offer on-site dining. Five meeting rooms, a business corner and parking garage are also available. But unlike the nearby Tivoli Lisboa hotel, this property doesn’t offer in-room coffeemakers, a gym, or a pool.
Scene
Ultra-chic, white, airy interiors and Tagus River views
A white monolith facade with windows on two sides, the eight-floor Hotel Olissippo Oriente's exterior architecture hints at the streamlined property within. Beyond the entrance, the lobby's gleaming white floors, wall-to-wall windows, and gauzy curtains create an upscale backdrop for chic furniture like white-leather armchairs, shag rugs, and sculptural oval lamps. Backlit panels by the front desk have “welcome” written in numerous different languages. A sleek white staircase with metal railings rises above another bank of windows. Outside, a wooden planked terrace bound by white pebbles is furnished with rattan sofas and white umbrellas. Views of the Tagus River can be seen from some modern hallways, which are dimly lit compared to the lobby's airy space.
Location
In the Parque Das Nacoes area on the eastern coast
Sitting on the eastern coast of Lisbon, the hotel is in the convenient and walkable tourist area of Parque Das Nacoes -- on the former site of the 1998 Lisbon World Exposition -- with dining, entertainment, and shopping nearby. The Tagus River and Lisbon Oceanarium are a few blocks from the hotel. Casino Lisboa is next the property, and shopping is five minutes away on foot at the Vasco da Gama Center. Tourist sights are conveniently in reach with the Lisboa - Oriente light rails and Oriente subway station beside the hotel. The Lisbon Portela Airport is a 20-minute bus ride or 10-minute car ride. The Santa Justa Lift in the Baixa/ Chiado area is 30 minutes by public transportation. It’s a 30-minute drive to Belem Tower and Jeronimos Monastery.
Rooms
Understated, stylish rooms with flat-screen TVs and minibars, some with river views
The subtly elegant rooms are minimally adorned with upscale furnishings. Wooden headboards with upholstered details, plum textiles, and feather-patterned wallpaper create a warm atmosphere. Standard Rooms and Suites are located between the second and eighth floors. The higher floors have nice partial Tagus River views. All rooms have safes, AC, free Wi-Fi, minibars, writing desks, and flat-screen TVs. Junior Suites are more stylishly designed than rooms and also offer coffeemakers, bathrobes and slippers, and living rooms. Bathrooms are equally modern and streamlined with square vessel sinks, magnifying mirrors, hairdryers, and shower/tub combos.
Features
Portuguese dining, a coffee shop and bar, meeting rooms, and a business center
The Hotel Olissippo Oriente makes the most of its large windows in common areas bathed in natural light. Colorful chairs, floor-to-ceiling windows, and wooden planked floors in the large coffee shop create a hip atmosphere. Hot-pink throw pillows on sofas and purple upholstered walls in the bar make for a fashion-forward setting as well. Restaurante As Descobertas -- with large windows facing the terrace -- has a traditional Portuguese menu and a dining room that’s elegantly furnished. Breakfast is available, but it's not included with most room rates. Private parties or meetings can be held on-site with five meeting rooms that can fit between 30 to 500 people for cocktail receptions and 30 to 400 people in a theater layout. The business lounge is outfitted with leather sofas and a PC computer, available for a fee. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
