Scene
Historic hotel has classic interior designs.
Situated amid weathered cobblestone streets with graffiti-tagged walls, the Hotel Olissippo Castelo is a lovely 1890-built property that appeals to travelers -- mostly couples -- who have an appreciation for the area. There’s an undeniable charm in the slightly decaying building facades that are spray-painted and feature hanging laundry over wrought-iron balconies and flower boxes fixed on windows. With a quaint pink exterior, the hotel has two glass front doors that lead into the lobby. Comfortable sofas and chairs are in a small reception area beside the breakfast lounge and bar. Classic in design, hallways feature blue carpeting, wood details, and lounge space that’s traditional -- bordering on dated.

The hotel is between the Martim Moniz and Rossio subway stations. Most sights are in walking distance, including the Baixa/Chiado area with the Santa Justa Lift that connects to the Barrio Alto. The National Pantheon and Lisbon Cathedral are also in walking distance. It’s a 15-minute walk to the Praca Do Comercio.
