The 71-room Hotel Gat Rossio is a cool, affordable property located next to Lisbon's Restauradores Square. A free breakfast is served in a trendy dining room, but there isn’t cocktail service here. Loaded with fun designs, small rooms have flat-screen TVs and safes, and many offer city views. Suites and Suite Duplexes have sitting areas. However, some rooms get a lot of traffic noise due to the property's urban location; light sleepers may want to compare rates and facilities at the Hotel Lutecia, which offers larger, quieter rooms, but in a less central location.
Scene
Mid-range hotel with cool cat eye designs and lounge space
The Pombaline-style architecture of the six-floor Hotel Gat Rossio features large windows and iron balconies. Faint pops of the hotel’s signature lime green colors glow from behind the glass of the entrance. Interiors are filled to the brim with uber-trendy decor, beginning in the reception area. There's a green cat eye is on the front desk and green-lit display cases with cat's eye logo merchandise. The waiting room also features funky green designs, along with cushioned stools, a black-and-white map of the city, and round spotlights that hang from an industrial ceiling. Outdoor hallways have lime-green doors. There’s an elevator and retro spiral staircase with gold railings, lined with red carpeting. The hotel draws mostly couples in town on leisure.
Location
Located in the Barrio de la Baixa by the Restauradores Square
At the hotel’s doorstep are cobblestone alleyways that lead to the Obelisk Statue and the metro station at Restauradores Square. This location in the Barrio de la Baixa is great for tourists, and there are plenty of restaurants, shops and cafes nearby. Rossio Square is down the street and the Lisbon Tram is a few blocks to the west of the hotel. Tram 28 -- which weaves through the city to the Castelo de Sao Jorge -- is in walking distance. The Santa Justa Lift, which connects Baixa with Largo do Carmo, is a five-minute walk away, while walking to Bairro Alto takes about 10 minutes. Alfama -- on the Tagus River -- is a 12-minute bus ride. The Lisbon Portela Airport is a 20-minute drive.
Rooms

Trendy designs efficiently make use of limited space in rooms. Funkily designed shelving units have spaces for hanging clothes and stacking belongings, and even have nooks with electric safes. Black-and-white patterned curtains hang over windows or French doors, which look out over the city or onto to other buildings. All rooms have small flat-screen TVs, iHome stations, and air-conditioning. Green-tiled bathrooms feature walk-in showers and hairdryers.Single Rooms have twin beds and Double Standard Rooms come with twin or queen beds. Double Superior Rooms offer king beds and writing desks, while Triple Rooms have a mix of queen and single beds. For extra space, the two-level Duplex Suites offer king beds and twin daybeds. Junior Suites have king beds, sitting areas, Torrie coffeemakers, and large bathrooms. Tall guests may want to take note that rooms on the top floor have vaulted ceilings.
