One of the best value hotels in Lisbon, the three-pearl Hotel Dom Afonso Henriques has an immediate area that's low-key and residential, but the airport and major tourist destinations can be reached within
30 minutes by public transportation. All rooms are modern and clean and include unfurnished balconies. Overall, Hotel DAH is a convenient option for travelers on a budget
who don’t mind long walks or short subway rides to city sights.
Scene
Cozy and bright but dated
Hotel DAH is frequented by a variety of
guests that include small families from all over the world along with individual
travelers and business guests. The reception area is small, comprised of a desk
area and a few trinkets on shelves. The breakfast room is
small as well but bright with natural lighting coming in through a pair of
large windows. A separate lounge area with additional seating offers more
windows along with a coffee machine, vending machine, flat-screen TV, and stack
of books for perusal.
Location
Not tourist central, but near Alameda Gardens and beautiful views of the city
Situated in a residential area not
frequented by tourists, Hotel DAH has a variety of local shops and businesses
nearby, including a grocery store, bakery, barber, and Italian restaurant. The shopping
center Olaias Plaza is just a five-minute walk northeast. In
the other direction, tourists will find a large fountain and Alameda Dom Afonso
Henriques Gardens. The Olaias is the nearest metro stop -- about an eight-minute
walk from the hotel -- while on the other side of the gardens, the Alameda is
about a 10-minute walk. From the gardens, the view of Fonte Luminosa is
impressive. The city’s historic center, featuring sights like the Baixa, Chiado
Square, and Sao Jorge Castle, is 15 to 20 minutes away by metro. Lisbon Portela
Airport is less than 10 minutes north by car, or 30 minutes by train.
Rooms
Simple and modern with unfurnished balconies
Rooms here are simple and contemporary with
attractive wooden desks and wardrobes as well as crisp bed linens. There’s not much in
the way of decor besides hooded ceiling lights, mirrors, and satellite TVs
mounted on walls. All rooms have unfurnished private balconies, and those on
the higher floors have lovely views of the city. Bathrooms are narrow but
modern with large dark tiles on the floor and off white square tiles on walls
and in showers. Double rooms have standing showers with clear glass doors while
Triple and Quadruple rooms have shower/tub combos. Sinks are relatively small
with little counter space and, in spite of looking clean overall, mold has been
sighted between tile panels. Free Wi-Fi access and safes are also available in
every room.
Features
Breakfast buffet, free Wi-Fi, and paid private parking
Breakfast
is included in the price of most room packages and includes freshly made
Portuguese cakes, fresh fruit, and yogurt. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout
the hotel and private parking is offered for an extra fee. A wood-paneled
presentation room is equipped with chairs for up to 30 people. An open
coffee lounge area has vending machines as well. Hotel staff can arrange
airport transfers, tours, and reservations for restaurants and special events.
Laundry and babysitting services are also available upon request.
