Bottom Line

The three-pearl Holiday Inn Express Lisbon Oeiras is an affordable chain property near corporate and industrial areas, about a 20-minute drive to Lisbon's center. There are no shops or restaurants within walking distance -- a car is necessary -- making the property better suited for business travelers than tourists. Its 126 bright rooms are clean, but a bit worn and decor is dated. Breakfast is included, but guests describe it as mediocre. There is a lobby bar serving drinks and light fare, as well as a meeting room and business area. Guests have access to a nearby fitness center at no charge. For a mid-range hotel in the city center, the Holiday Inn Express Lisbon - Av. Liberdade has clean and attractive interiors and a convenient location, but rates are more expensive.

Scene

Clean and functional chain hotel for corporate travelers

The Holiday Inn Express Oeiras is an average chain hotel on the edge of an office park, primarily attracting guests doing business in the area. Its boxy white facade with square windows is typical of Holiday Inn Express properties. Inside, the lobby, featuring several mirrored surfaces, is well lit and has cream tile floors and scattered carpets. Contemporary chairs and sofas in beige sueded fabrics are contrasted by bright red sofas, floor lamps, and bar stools. The mirrored and softly lit bar opens onto a great room that resembles an office cafeteria, with straight back chairs upholstered in beige hues, glossy black tables, and windows overlooking grassy areas around the hotel.

Location

A 20-minute drive to Lisbon's center

The Holiday Inn Express Lisbon is on the edge of an office park in Oeiras, five minutes by car off Highway Cascais, also known as A5, and a 20-minute drive to downtown Lisbon. There's little in walking distance, and  a car is necessary for this area. It's a five-minute drive to Quinta da Fonte and Tagus Business Park. Poet's Park, home of the EDP Jazz Festival, is a six-minute drive or 29 minutes on public transportation. Parco de Arcos station for public transit is an eight-minute drive, but it has lengthly options for reaching downtown. Oeiras Park Center and the town of Estoril are 10 minutes away by car. The Marques de Pombal Palace and Oeiras Beach are both about a 10-minute drive. The town of Sintra, with its lovely palaces and Moorish castle, is an 18-minute drive. The Lisbon Airport is about a 20-minute drive from the hotel.

Rooms

Clean and bright rooms with practical touches -- but dated decor and some wear and tear

Rooms at this property are clean and bright, with practical touches like pullout sofas. Decor is a touch dated, and there are some signs of wear, like stains on the carpets. The rooms are average in size with large square windows that have striped drapes. Royal blue wall-to-wall carpeting is contrasted by white walls and colorful accents like red and beige (often striped) throws. The beds, with white linen and a menu of pillow choices, have blond-wood headboards with adjustable reading lights, while blond-wood desks offer multiple electrical outlets. Electrical adapters are available from housekeeping. All rooms have air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs with Pay-Per-View options, and tea- and coffee-making facilities, but there are no mini-fridges. The bathrooms, which include bidets, are clean and bright with white and blue tiles and black synthetic-stone counter sinks. The tub/shower combinations have power showheads and glass doors. Liquid soap is in wall-mounted dispensers.

Features

Free breakfast, Wi-Fi, and parking, plus lobby bar

There is a meeting room with audio-visual equipment. Guests are entitled to use an off-site fitness center at no extra charge.
