Bottom Line

The 59-room Dom Carlos Liberty Lisboa is a mid-range hotel with a slightly retro feel located a few blocks from the luxury shopping district on Avenida da Liberdade. While the wood-paneled lobby looks quite ample and feels airy, other spaces upstairs, including the hallways and a lovely, skylit fitness center, are on the small side. Rooms have an elegant, understated aesthetic with wood-paneled headboards and recessed lighting. There are a good number of restaurants in the area, and the more casual downtown neighborhoods are a 10-minute bus ride away. Guests have described it as good value for this particular price range, which is on the low end for the district. There is free buffet breakfast and free Wi-Fi.

Scene

Mid-range, retro hotel with wood paneled elegance

The Dom Carlos Liberty Lisboa hotel has warm wood paneling throughout, giving the property a slightly retro air. Brushed chrome elevators, recessed lighting, and potted plants lend a slight casual corporate aesthetic to a lobby with floor-to-ceiling windows. The building itself is a modern, eight-story structure with a slight Bauhaus feel to its curved, plain exterior. The atmosphere is relaxed and quiet.

Location

One long block from Marques de Pombal square, three short blocks from Avenida da Liberdade

The Dom Carlos Liberty Lisboa hotel is situated in a prime shopping area, within a few minutes walk of the luxury shops of Avenida da Liberdade. While there are some restaurants within walking distance, guests can also hop a bus at Avenida metro station about four blocks away for access to the Baixa neighborhood and its plethora of quaint stores and eateries (10 minutes away).

Rooms

Small rooms in natural hues with wood-panel built-ins

Elegant, compact rooms have tufted headboards set into wood panels, a wood writing desk, and linen-colored curtains; bedding is white with throw blankets that match the natural hue of the carpeting. Bathrooms, fitted with stone tiles, large mirrors, and chrome fixtures, have recessed lighting and a glass-panel door on the shower/tub combo. All rooms have a hairdryer, air-conditioning, cable, a flat screen TV, a minibar, digital safe, and adjustable reading lights in addition to ceiling lighting. Some higher, larger rooms have balcony access and spectacular views of the city.

Features

Tiny fitness room, breakfast room that turns into a lounge in the day, plus meeting space

A sunny fitness center with a few cardio machines and free weights can accommodate a few people at a time. There is a breakfast room that converts into a lounge by day that includes an honesty bar (guests inform the reception of their drinks, which are then added to the room tab). A meeting room with a conference table provides business travelers with a gathering spot. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property.
