The 11-room Chiado 16 is a stylish, upscale hotel with a combination of rooms and apartment-like suites in a renovated 17th century building. Many of the chic, bright rooms have gigantic, luxurious bathrooms, all with ultra-modern fixtures and surfaces as well as bathrobes and iPod docks. Situated in the old part of town, in the neighborhood of Baixa, the property is set up a hill and enjoys spectacular views of the bay as well as over the rooftops of downtown. There are a plethora of small shops and restaurants in the immediate area. Wi-Fi is free and there is a charming breakfast room on-site.

Chiado 16 is set in a small structure from the 17th century that looks like a residential edifice from the outside, and opens up onto a quiet cobblestone street. The lobby has black wrought iron, plush purple velour chairs, mounted contemporary black-and-white photographs, and mosaic tile built-in benches. A low-ceilinged, wood-paneled room just off the lobby painted dusky lavender serves as a breakfast and meeting room. The hotel primarily attracts vacationing couples and the occasional small family. The atmosphere is polished with an artistic twist.

Several bus lines leave within a block of the hotel, which is situated In the built-up hills of Lisbon’s old town, in the Baixa neighborhood. The property sits near the historic center of the city; monuments, churches, and cultural attractions like the National Theater of Sao Carlos are all within a few minutes’ walk. The Bairro Alto and its plethora of winding streets and hopping bars is a 15-minute walk away. The airport is a 35-minute ride via public transportation, with a single transfer, starting from the metro at Baixa/Chiado, which is three blocks away.

Almost all of these modern rooms have a beautiful view of the waterfront of Lisbon, São Jorge Castle, and the Cathedral of Lisbon. Brushed chrome surfaces, white walls, and smart-looking resin built-ins combine with floral curtains, teak-colored wood floors, and Queen Anne chairs for a lovely, casually contemporary aesthetic infused with some character. Depending on the size of the room, bathrooms may have a shower/tub combo, or separate soaking tub and stall shower. All bathrooms are airy and bright, are usually tiled in white, and some have freestanding tubs set near the window. All rooms have a coffeemaker, air-conditioning, a flat-screen TV, bathrobes, a hairdryer, and an iron and board. Some suites have separate living areas.
