Originally built in the 1830s, this small
boutique hotel is a fully restored Georgian home that was bought by the current owner in 2006. The exterior brick building
with sash windows is only a slight signal to the rich scene of the mostly Georgian interior decor. The lobby is small, but has a rustic charm with fresh flowers on
an iron table, a woven basket next to a modern armchair, and hanging industrial
light bulbs. The heart of the house is the drawing room, which has a Georgian-inspired elegance with heavy drapes and sophisticated patterns, as well as an original marble fireplace. There’s a countryside elegance to the
restaurant with its wooden floors, chic gray chairs pulled up to gray tables,
gilded chandeliers, and collection of antique-style mirrors, maps, and artwork
that cover a wall. The hotel’s history is alluded to in small details, like the guest room names inspired by Irish literary greats or the restored basement
vault that houses the spa and features exposed brick and original stonework. Couples and groups of friends
are the main clientele of this boutique hotel, attracted by its elegant charm and historic past. 

The hotel is situated on a
quiet residential street across from a quaint park, in Limerick’s historic
Georgian quarter. It’s within easy walking distance of a wealth of restaurants,
cafes, shops, public transportation, and many of Limerick’s sights. King John’s
Castle and St. Mary’s Church are a 20-minute walk away. Arthur’s Quay
Shopping Center takes 12 minutes on foot to reach. Restaurants can be found
within a five- to 10-minute walk from the hotel, while O’Connell Street, a popular avenue with shops and dining, is a three-minute walk away. The nearest bus stop is a block away from the hotel, while the bus and train station is about a seven-minute walk. Shannon Airport can be reached in about 25 minutes by car. 

Continuing the contemporary
Georgian style found in the hotel's public areas, guest rooms are outfitted in soft
colors, white linens, white or wooden Georgian furniture, and sophisticated
floral designs on pillows or curtains. Textures are present in soft carpet woolen bed throws and
velour chairs and headboards. All rooms have flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi, but lack coffee- and tea-making facilities, though the Townhouse Suite comes
equipped with a kettle and coffee machine as well as a mini-fridge. It also has a separate living room furnished with comfortable couches and a dining room table. The black-and-white tiled bathrooms have shower/tub combos, though the suite has a separate shower and tub, while the Vanderkiste Room has a clawfoot bathtub and a shower. It’s the small
touches like the Voya toiletries, antique-style taps on the sinks, chic art
pieces, or delightfully framed mirrors that bring these bathrooms to the next
level. 

The No. 1 Pery Square Hotel
& Spa goes a bit beyond the upscale boutique basics, offering a chic bar
and lounge that serves light fare throughout the day and
has an extensive wine list. There’s also Sash, the on-site restaurant that’s
open for lunch and dinner and serves locally sourced produce, even using bounty from their
own garden. However, guests have noted it can be quite pricey. Room service is
available 24-hours a day, but once the restaurant closes, it’s light fare until morning. The Georgian heritage is on full display with afternoon tea (for a
fee) in the drawing room. For a dose of pampering, the on-site
spa offers various beauty treatments and massages, and it also has a sauna and a steam room. Other on-site features include a wine shop, four meeting rooms, and a lovely outdoor terrace and private garden to enjoy on sunny days. Free
Wi-Fi is available throughout. The hotel’s free car park is nearby, though it’s quite crammed and
might take a bit to retrieve a car. Street parking is free on the weekends
and might be a better option.
