  • Air-conditioning, toiletries, and hairdryers come standard

  • Some rooms have sitting areas and kettles

  • Free parking in front of the hotel is a rarity for area

Cons
  • Rooms have tiny bathrooms and showers

  • Rooms need general maintenance and upkeep

  • Reports of slow elevators

  • No full restaurant or gym

  • No free water provided

  • Wi-Fi connection is unreliable (though at least it's free)

Bottom Line

Located in La Spezia's central district, this uniquely laid-out mid-range hotel is accessed via a public elevator that connects the city's different layers. It's convenient to onward travel to Cinque Terre and other regional towns, as the train station and ferry port are each less than a 15-minute walk away. However, the hotel doesn't live up to its advertised four-star rating, as there's no full restaurant or wellness facilities, and guests have complained of in-room issues. The 66 rooms are contemporary but showing wear, bathrooms are tiny, and free Wi-Fi is unreliable. General maintenance is also needed throughout the hotel, and elevators are reportedly painstakingly slow. Those looking for a better overall hotel might prefer the more charming Albergo delle Spezia

Scene

Good hotel for those traveling on and looking for value

My One Hotel La Spezia is a favorite with travelers looking for an overnight stay or a base from which to explore Cinque Terre without paying the region's high prices. While contemporary, the decor throughout isn't romantic or stylish enough to make an impression (the breakfast room is especially clinical), and next-to-no amenities are a disappointment. These downsides, along with reports of maintenance issues, make this hotel fall below its advertised four-star status. Uniquely, the lobby of the hotel is actually on the property's fifth floor, but public elevators shuttle guests up to that level.Unfortunately, many guests have complained of slow elevators. The property's lowest level opens out onto the city's main shopping street.

Location

Located near main shopping district with good transit links to Cinque Terre

The hotel is located just off La Spezia's central shopping area, near several restaurants and bars. It's also well-connected to other parts of town, thanks to the aforementioned elevators (or stairs for the athletically inclined). Those looking for a good base to explore Cinque Terre from will find the 12-minute walk to the central train station and its proximity to the ferry convenient; the port is about a 10-minute walk from the hotel. The region, as well as the towns of Portovenere and Lerici, are about 10 minutes away from La Spezia by train. Pisa International Airport is about an hour away by car, or 90 minutes by direct train.

Rooms

Underwhelming rooms in need of maintenance

Rooms are contemporary, if underwhelming, with mauve walls, basic two-tone wood furniture, dark-brown curtains, and white-tile floors. Beds are topped by white linens, and framed artwork adds some color. Rooms are compact, but there's enough room to move around. All have air-conditioning, small satellite LCD TVs, desks, minibars (but no free water), and safes. Junior Suites add tea- and coffee-making facilities and separate sitting areas. Unfortunately, some rooms aren't in the best of shape -- peeling wallpaper, cracked tiles, rusty showerheads. Guests should ask to see the room when they check-in, in case it's on the shabbier side. Bathrooms are small and have tiny stall showers. Generic toiletries and hairdryers are provided.

Features

Breakfast buffet offered, but the food quality isn't great.

There's no full restaurant, but the free buffet breakfast is generous, with eggs, sausages, and other continental offerings like cold meats and cheeses, plus an array of pastries. However, some guests have said the quality is mediocre. Additionally, a bar is on-site offering a daily happy hour. Free Wi-Fi is available to guests throughout the property, though it's not the most reliable of connections. Parking is available directly in front of the hotel for free, or there's paid parking in a nearby garage (street parking is difficult to come by here).
