E.Gwada Hostel
1 Impasse Marcimain, St Felix

E.Gwada Hostel is a two-pearl property located a short walk from Plage de Saint-Felix beach in southern Grande-Terre. The hostel offers eight no-frills private rooms and dorms, all of which include fans and shared bathrooms. The facilities are minimal but well-maintained, and the atmosphere is friendly. Aside from the beach, there’s little to do and see within walking distance. The hostel’s own restaurant serves breakfast and dinner, but there are no shared kitchen facilities, which leaves guests with limited dining options. E.Gwada is the only hostel in Grande-Terre and one of the cheapest accommodation options on the island. Travelers with more flexibility in their budget could also consider Cap Sud Caraibes, a property located between Gosier and Sainte Anne.

Mahogany Hotel Residence and Spa
Pointe de La Verdure

Mahogany Hotel Residence and Spa is a three-and-a-half-pearl property located in the town of Gosier on Grande-Terre. The hotel’s 63 rooms are tidy and modern, and all have private terraces with kitchenettes, but Wi-Fi incurs a fee. The hotel shares its on-site features with La Creole Beach Hotel, including four restaurants and bars, a sprawling pool, man-made beach, fitness center, spa, and meeting spaces. While everything about this hotel is satisfactory, Mahogany has few exceptional traits aside from its fine a la carte restaurant. Travelers seeking an all-inclusive experience might want to consider Club Med La Caravelle in Sainte-Anne, which offers plenty of features and kid-friendly amenities.

Cap Sud Caraibes
Chemin de La Plage, Petit Havre

Cap Sud Caraibes is a two-and-a-half-pearl hotel located in a quiet, fairly remote area between the towns of Gosier and Sainte Anne. The hotel’s eight rooms have an unpolished charm, with some featuring balconies or terraces with sea views. Many lack privacy, however, offering uncovered showers and bathrooms with curtains instead of doors. Modest on-site amenities include an appealing outdoor pool and two laid-back common areas with hammocks. A small but tasty continental breakfast is free and served in an airy hut. There’s a pretty local beach easily accessible on foot, but otherwise little to do and see within walking distance. Guests interested in a small, locally owned hotel might also want to consider La Metisse in Saint Francois, a moderately pricier mid-range property with more refined interiors.

Canella Beach Hotel-Restaurant
Pointe de La Verdure

Hotel-Residence Canella Beach is a past-its-prime, three-pearl hotel located on a beach a short drive from the town center of Gosier. The hotel’s 143 rooms offer terraces, sitting areas, and kitchenettes, but housekeeping and maintenance are sometimes not up to standard. Renovated rooms are inviting, but the un-renovated rooms are dull and old-fashioned. The private beach is decent, while the pool and restaurant are run-of-the-mill. A free buffet breakfast is included in the room rate, and the hotel’s central location is ideal for exploring the island. For cleaner rooms and a better restaurant, it could be worth paying more to stay at La Creole Beach Hotel, another centrally located mid-range property.

Hotel Fleur d'Epee
49 Impasse Du Bas Du Fort

This 191-room, mid-range hotel has a central location near Gosier, a 15-minute drive from the airport and within a half-hour drive of most tourist sights. The sight of the waves crashing against the volcanic outcroppings out back is a highlight, but the hotel itself has seen better days, and shows signs of wear throughout room and common areas. The lobby is dark and looks slightly institutional, and the beach is small and mediocre by Guadeloupe standards. Rates are too high for what you get; Club Med La Caravelle, a 20-minute drive to the east, has modern accommodations and a bigger beach for similar prices, while the nearby La Creole Beach Hotel is comparable and often cheaper.

La Creole Beach Hotel & Spa
Pointe de La Verdure

The modern, 211-room, mid-range La Creole Beach straddles the line between business hotel and family-friendly vacation hotel, though plenty of locals have started coming for its beachside nouveau-Creole seafood restaurant as well. It's a sprawling, 10-acre property centrally located in Gosier, within an hour of most of Guadeloupe's tourist destinations. Clean, basic rooms are a bit disappointing for the price (and not up to advertised four-star standards), and most have French balconies with nowhere to sit. The pool and man-made beach are the main draws here, as are the large conference rooms. Most will prefer it to the nearby (more affordable) Hotel Fleur d'Epée, but those who want an all-inclusive experience should consider Club Med La Caravelle near Sainte-Anne. The hotel's pricier sister property, La Toubana, is more upscale and better suited for couples.

Auberge de la Vieille Tour
Section Montauban

This property was impacted by Hurricane Irma and Maria in September 2017. We will update our review as soon as we have more information. Auberge de la Vieille Tour is an upper-middle-range hotel perched on a hill above a small private beach. Beautiful seaside views are a true highlight. While its 104 rooms are fairly run-of-the-mill, all offer balconies or terraces with scenic ocean views. Features include a snack bar on the beach, a bar specializing in old rums, and a restaurant serving all meals -- including an international breakfast buffet (for a fee). An outdoor pool and a well-worn tennis court round out the on-site amenities. Everything is well-maintained, but it lacks a wow factor. Plus the many steps leading down to the pool and beach could be tricky for those with mobility issues. Travelers willing to pay moderately higher rates might prefer La Toubana Hotel & Spa in Sainte Anne, which has more modern rooms and amenities, including a gorgeous infinity pool.
