Bottom Line

Because of the relatively quiet location, this property attracts older travelers, many in organized groups, as well as families who enjoy the proximity to Sorrento combined with the slight remove from the bustle of its downtown streets. The hotel enjoys spectacular views of the Bay of Naples, situated near a scattering of average dining options just north of Sorrento. There aren’t a plethora of activities on-site: The hotel lacks a pool, and guests have remarked that the adjacent piece of beach, which is accessible for a fee, isn’t attractive. However, the bay views and romantic position of the hotel, coupled with what many claim to be exceptionally gracious service, attracts repeat visitors.

Scene

Set among lemon trees in the small township of Sant' Agnello, just outside Sorrento

Hotel Corallo's 54 rooms, many overlooking the sea, enjoy a dramatic cliff-side position slightly apart from the bustling tourist center of Sorrento. Older travelers favor this hotel, with its sweeping views and quiet location. The relatively small size of the property contributes to an intimate, casual atmosphere. An outdoor terrace overlooking the water provides plenty of room to relax, and a tiled, homey lobby area is finished in cerulean blue hues.

Location

25-minute walk to downtown Sorrento and near a bus line that leads into town as well

The property is on a cliff more than a mile outside of downtown Sorrento in a small township called Sant’Agnello. Travelers can access Piazza Tasso, considered to be Sorrento’s unofficial town center, via a 25-minute walk or a short drive. The hotel is also across the street from a city bus line that leads directly into town. Commerce in the immediate area is limited to a small handful of restaurants. The nearest international airport to the hotel is in Naples, and visitors can request a hotel transfer. Sant’Agnello is accessible via train directly from Naples.

Rooms

Bayside rooms have spectacular views; bedding is dated and beds may be hard

The rooms at Hotel Corallo have a pleasant but inconsistent decor, and generally have the feeling of a spare bedroom. Bedding varies widely in aesthetic and tends toward jewel-toned quilted comforters. Multiple guests have commented that the beds are on the hard side. Still, the much-lauded sea views are available via nearly every room in the hotel. Even some of the bathrooms have a window overlooking the sea. The occasional guest has complained of noise from the elevator and hallway. All rooms have Wi-Fi, slippers, and a small flat-screen TV.

Features

Restaurant that receives high marks; very scenic bar terrace

Both access to the nearby beach, located down the cliff from the hotel, and on-site parking require a fee. (Keep in mind guests have noted that the beach is small and nothing to write home about.) The hotel’s most attractive amenities are its dining and drinking venues: The bar consists largely of an intimate terrace with splendid views of the water, and the restaurant receives overall positive reviews from visitors.
