The four-and-a-half-pearl D.O.M Hotel Roma is a luxurious boutique located on one of the most exclusive streets in Rome’s historic center. The property is contemporary, with an artistic design that subtly plays up some of the original architectural details of the monastery it once was. Its 24 stylish and spacious guest rooms and suites all overlook Via Giulia, and come with AC, flat-screen TVs, generously stocked minibars, and chic bathrooms with rainfall showers, but units lack coffeemakers or kettles. Highlights among features include a fine-dining restaurant, a trendy bar, and a rooftop terrace with skyline views, but there's no spa or gym. Travelers looking for a stay with a spa can consider Hotel Indigo Rome - St. George.
Scene
Cutting-edge design that incorporates the building’s historic character
Set on Via Giulia, one of Rome's most exclusive residential streets, D.O.M feels like a posh urban lounge, with a sexy, upmarket vibe. Occupying a former 17th-century monastery, the boutique hotel has thoughtfully mixed historic features with fresh decor. Dim lighting is just bright enough to highlight the luxe, crushed-velvet silver sofas and chairs that are set against midnight-blue walls. Dramatic details are mixed with a more elegant aesthetic, and the exposed brick and coffered ceilings blend with fine art prints and neutral, modern furniture. When guests venture out of their contemporary rooms, they can relax at D.O.M’s restaurant, bar, or rooftop terrace, which offers excellent views of the city's skyline. With a central but elite location, the hotel tends to attract well-heeled couples and business travelers.
Location
Exclusive location that feels far away from the crowds -- and from some top sights
Running parallel to the Tiber River, Via Giulia has been one of Rome’s most famous streets for centuries. During the Renaissance, it was the street that the famed painter Raphael and many Italian noble families called home. Today, Via Giulia retains much of its old cobblestone charm and high-end reputation. D.O.M is situated near the French Embassy and several artisan shops, antique dealers, and fashionable boutiques. One other notable neighbor is the headquarters of Italy’s anti-mafia police force. D.O.M’s entrance is directly across from the dignified station, which means that armed guards are always on patrol. The location could not be safer, but the nearby security measures may mean small inconveniences such as limitations on taxis idling outside the hotel. In addition to being located within an easy stroll of excellent restaurants and Roman wine bars, the hotel is short walk to both Trastevere and Campo de’ Fiori. Both areas of Rome are known for their buzzing nightlife, but the hotel itself is luckily placed in one of the city’s last quiet corners. While there are no metro stops nearby, buses run along major streets, such as Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, just five minutes away on foot. However, many of the city's top attractions are a hike from the hotel or aren't within reasonable walking distance. - 15-minute walk to the Pantheon
Rooms
Chic interiors blend original details and modern design, but no coffeemakers or kettles
The guest rooms at D.O.M appear understated and neutral, but the cool, white and dove gray design is full of high-end touches, like velvet headboards, cashmere-silk carpets, and oversized mirrors. All rooms are spacious and have at least two windows that overlook Via Giulia and let in plenty of natural light. Dark wood floors, exposed brick, and modern fixtures complete the sophisticated, contemporary look.Standard amenities include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs (sometimes hidden behind those grand mirrors), generously stocked minibars, safes, and free Wi-Fi, but rooms lack coffeemakers or kettles. Bathrooms vary in size, but they're chic, with marble vanities, square sinks, and large walk-in rainfall showers with removable showerheads. All also have bidets, heated towel racks, robes, slippers, and hairdryers, and some Junior Suites add bathtubs. All suites have separate living areas and an additional bathroom. The D.O.M Suite, which occupies two floors, has a private terrace and view of the dome at St. Peter’s Basilica.
