The upscale Aenea's Landing resembles a Mediterranean-style village; it is set amongst gorgeous desert gardens overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea and consists of cozy individual bungalows of various sizes and categories. It is a very popular getaway destination as well as a wedding locale for locals and foreigners alike (some guests have complained about noise from events). The dramatic location, set into a cliffside near Gaeta, makes for fantastic views, including from the beautifully-constructed swimming pool wrapped around the stone cliff surrounded by palm trees.
Scene
A romantic Mediterranean-style village
The grounds at Aenea's Landing are a major draw; set into a dramatic cliffside, the property is spread out over several acres and consists of conjoined, one-story stucco buildings linked by paved walkways, all set underneath magnificent pines and amongst xeriscaped gardens. The interior courtyards, with stone archways, have the feel of a private Roman garden. Interior common areas, including the restaurants and bar, are finished with a slightly eclectic though attractive mix of local stone and dark wood furniture. This is a popular romantic getaway and also a favored wedding destination.
Location
Located directly on the beach six kilometers from the town of Gaeta
Aenea's Landing is on a cliff directly overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea six kilometers from the small town of Gaeta; it is terraced into the hillside and part of the hotel is adjacent to the beach itself. The property is not far from the nature preserve and historical monuments in Monte Orlando. A car is recommended for exploring the area, though Gaeta can be accessed from Formia, the nearest train station, via local bus or taxi (about five kilometers).
Rooms
Cozy apartments outfitted in warm colors, wood beams, and terra-cotta tile floors
These independent apartments set amongst cacti and a profusion of bouganvilleas, some directly upon the beach, are updated while still retaining character through exposed beams and handsome dark wood furniture. Rich jewel-toned walls contrast with contemporary framed posters and drawings; rooms have terra-cotta tile floors throughout, and most have a modest outdoor area just outside the entrance. Stall showers in the bathroom are lined in mosaic tile. Some guests have noted that the humidity of the sea makes for mustiness in the bathrooms. All rooms have air-conditioning.
Features
Private beach with sun chairs; swimming pool set into the cliffside
There are two restaurants here; the more formal one sits under an opaque glass arcade with a tiled ceiling; the second has an outdoor terrace overlooking the sea. The several meeting rooms constitute a combination of living room-meets-event-hall, all of which continue the property's aesthetic of locally-themed luxury. A waterfall is incorporated into the outdoor pool, which skirts the property's cliffside and overlooks the private beach area.
