Bottom Line

Travelers looking for a fast-paced, activity-filled resort stay will want to look elsewhere. But those looking for an adult-only, three-and-a-half-pearl boutique hotel experience will adore Hotel Villa VIK, a former private villa converted into a 19-room luxury hotel in a quiet residential area of Playa del Cable, right on the beach. Each room has a private terrace or balcony, and while rooms are not especially spacious or stylish, they are spotless and have nice bathrooms. The outdoor heated pool and hot tub with lounge chairs, hammocks, and umbrellas is a popular hang-out spot among guests, as is the Terrace Bar. There's no nightlife to speak of, but the hotel's private restaurant serves a rotating dinner menu and local wines.

Scene

Quiet atmosphere, reminiscent of the private villa it once was

Housed in what was once a private villa, the Hotel Villa VIK retains an opulent home-like atmosphere. The entrance has a stone driveway, rock walls, and lush plantings. With several small, cozy seating areas and a bar, the lobby feels a bit more like the living space of a very wealthy friend than that of a hotel, despite the fact that the villa has been a hotel for over a decade. Expect peace and quiet here and lots of couples -- children are not allowed at the hotel.

Location

Quiet, residential location by the beach

Located in the residential area of Playa del Cable in Lanzarote, the Hotel Villa VIK is a short drive from Arrecife and Playa Honda, where there's plenty of shopping and dining. The beach is only a two-minute walk away and there are two golf courses in the area, both of which are about 15 minutes away by car. Timanfaya National Park is a 20-minute drive away and is a popular among volcano enthusiasts. The Lanzarote Airport is a five-minute drive from the property.

Rooms

Pretty, functional rooms, each with its own terrace or balcony

The Hotel Villa VIK's 19 guest rooms are attractive and understatedly elegant. Each room has a terrace or balcony, a minibar, free Wi-Fi, and a flat-screen TV, and some come with whirlpool hot tubs. Rooms run small but are spotless and pretty, with decor ranging from a single room done mostly in blue to reflect the seaside surroundings to a more regal red and white striped decor in another. Some of the fabrics look dated and generic, but are in pristine condition. Bathrooms are modern and come with bidets, hairdryers, high-end toiletries, and bathrobes.

Features

Heated pool and whirlpool with lounge areas and on-site dining

The Hotel Villa VIK's outdoor pool is heated in the winter and is a top spot for guest lounging. Hammocks, lounge chairs, and umbrellas make the pool deck comfortable. A whirlpool hot tub is set in the garden and bicycles can be borrowed free of charge. The hotel offers little in the way of entertainment, as the majority of guests are seeking a quiet vacation away from the bustle that's common of the nearby all-inclusive mega resorts. That said, there is an exclusive private restaurant with an extensive local wine list a menu that changes daily and a Terrace Bar for evening cocktails. Afternoon snacks and wine are served for free. Both Wi-Fi and parking are free.
