Rooms with indoor hot tubs can feel cramped
The upscale Barcelo Teguise Beach is one of Lanzarote’s most stylish adult-only properties. Its 305 rooms are contemporary and well-equipped, with quality beds, espresso machines, and free Wi-Fi. Most units offer views of the sea, and many have a hot tub, either indoors or on the balcony. The atmosphere is quiet and relaxing, in particular around the pools, one of which is heated year-round and offers panoramic views of the ocean. Food gets great reviews for quality and variety, though some past guests have complained that it is usually lukewarm, and the cocktail bar is popular among guests and non-guests alike. Travelers wanting something cheaper may want to compare rates at the neighboring Be Live Experience Lanzarote Beach, though it is not adult-only.
Scene
Upscale adult-only hotel with a peaceful atmosphere and stylish interiors
Formerly an aging property, the Barcelo Teguise Beach reopened as a stylish adult-only hotel in 2015 following multimillion-dollar renovations. Though the property itself has kept its traditional Canarian style -- think low buildings with white facades and green wooden beams over the balconies -- interiors are now sleek and modern. Crushed-velvet tufted couches in lime-green, pink, and black combine in the lobby with large statues of horses and heavy Asian-inspired carved-wood tables to create a sleek, somewhat whimsical space. The rest of the indoor common areas are a tad more subdued, but a bold color scheme of greens, reds, and yellows keeps them looking fresh and contemporary. Outdoor areas have also been fully revamped, and feel as stylish (if not more) as the indoors. The main pool is lined with palm trees, loungers, and Bali beds, while the infinity pool has stunning ocean views. With its adult-only policy and relaxing atmosphere, the hotel is a favorite among couples seeking some peace and quiet, but there is also a soft entertainment program for those wanting to stay active. Still, travelers seeking something livelier in this price range may prefer the Melia Salinas. H10 Timanfaya Palace is an excellent alternative for couples on a slightly tighter budget, though the crowd is a little older there.
Location
In the heart of the action, and across the street from Las Cucharas Beach
Barcelo Teguise Beach is centrally located in Costa Teguise, a small beach community a little north of the airport. The hotel is right across the pedestrian promenade from Las Cucharas, a sandy beach known for its clear waters, and there are several other attractive stretches of sand within easy walking distance, including Jablillo and Bastian. The property is located on a small square right off Costa Teguise’s main drag, and there are dozens of bars, restaurants, and shops within a two-minute walk of the hotel. Arrecife, home to a handful of historic and cultural attractions, is a 15-minute drive away, as is the airport. The stunning volcanos of the Timanfaya National Park are about 35 minutes from the hotel by car.
Rooms
Stylish, minimalist rooms with balconies, free Wi-Fi, and minibars
The hotel has 305 minimalist rooms spread over six buildings, some set around a sunny courtyard, and others overlooking the sea. Decor is stylish and contemporary, with a soothing gray-and-white palette, clean lines, and few ornaments on walls. Big, plush beds are topped with thick duvets and several pillows, and most rooms are big enough to fit in a couch or loveseat. Floor-to-ceiling glass doors open to balconies in all rooms, and most have pleasant views of either the gardens or the sea, but a few units have limited views and can be dark. Rooms are equipped with an array of great amenities, including large LCD TVs with many international channels, minibars stocked with drinks and energy bars, free Wi-Fi, and espresso machines. Electric kettles are available on request free of charge, but a daily fee is required to use the safe. Many rooms (including some Deluxe units and all Junior Suites) have a hot tub on the balcony, but those units that have them indoors can feel a tad cramped. Open bathrooms have spacious sink areas and separate cabins for toilets and rainfall showers, all with frosted-glass doors. Hydro Basics toiletries are provided in all rooms, as are hairdryers and pool towels.
Features
Two infinity pools, spa, and solid dining and drinking options
The hotel has two beautiful, infinity-edge pools, each on a separate deck. The main pool is long and hip, with lots of loungers and palm trees, a few Bali Beds, and an area with serviced cabanas (for a fee), while the smaller pool is heated year-round and offers panoramic ocean views. Though there is no full entertainment program, the hotel offers free fitness classes in the morning next to the main pool, including yoga, Pilates, and Zumba. A fitness center with a dozen modern machines is set outside, but it's breezy. The adjacent spa offers inexpensive day passes to the thalassotherapy area, and there are three massage rooms where guests can get a wide array of body treatments for a fee. Guests can choose from a range of meal plans, from breakfast-only to all-inclusive. Food is tasty and varied, and the all-inclusive rate covers not only the standard alcoholic drinks, but also cocktails. Breakfast and dinner are served at the buffet, which offers a big spread with many veggie options, as well as a number of booths serving different world cuisines, including Canarian, Italian, and Asian. Lunch is a la carte, and includes a variety of healthy options such as salads and sandwiches. Champs is the hotel’s sports bar, which offers direct access to the promenade and features a solid bar food menu, along with pool tables and several large TV screens. A small meeting room with audiovisual equipment is available, and free Wi-Fi is accessibly throughout the property.
