The 282-room Bayview Hotel Langkawi is a three-pearl property with a casual, relaxed ambiance and setting in the middle of the Kuah commercial district. The overall look is dated and generic, though rooms do come with flat-screen TVs, minibars, kettles, and bathrobes. Cenang Beach is a 30-minute drive away, and guests that stay on-site are typically lounging poolside or making use of the spa and fitness center. There are a Chinese restaurant and another eatery serving local and international cuisine all day, and all rates include a breakfast buffet. There's little for kids to do and visible wear and tear throughout. For a hotel with more contemporary and well-maintained interiors, check out Adya Hotel Langkawi.
Scene
Dated decor in casual hotel frequented by families and couples
The Bayview Hotel Langkawi is a dated, mid-range property that attracts both couples and families, despite that there's little for kids to do on-site. The lobby is outfitted with attractive marble flooring and wooden benches, but the dozens of tiny and larger Malaysian flags are cheesy. The rest of the common areas are furnished with worn, old-fashioned decor, such as the Flamingo Restaurant's various patterns and colors in the armchairs, carpet, and drapery. The outdoor pool is simple and showing age, but it has lovely sea views and potted plants lining the perimeter. The vibe is generally relaxed, though the Woodpecker Lounge is a fun, casual place for guests to catch live entertainment. Note that smoking is not allowed on-site.
Location
In commercial district of Kuah, near shops and spas, but no beach nearby
Located off the mainland of Malaysia on the island of Langkawi, the hotel is in the commercial district of Kuah, near restaurants, spas, and duty-free shops. It's also close to natural attractions and the jetty that brings in tourists by ferry from the mainland or Penang Island. It's a 25-minute drive from Langkawi International Airport. The Kilim Forest Reserve is a 15-minute drive away and Langkawi Wildlife Park is 11 minutes. There are no beaches immediately nearby, and it's a 30-minute drive to Cenang Beach. There's a taxi stand in front of the hotel, and free parking on-site.
Rooms
Average interiors, large bathrooms, free in-house movies
The 282 rooms at Bayview Hotel Langkawi range from basic rooms with twin beds to executive suites with separate living room areas to lounge. The design across the board is old-fashioned and generic, consisting of neutral-tone carpet and linens, dark-wood furniture, white and pale-pink walls, and small, bland artwork. It’s worth noting that many of the rooms have two twin beds rather than full beds. Still, they're comfortable and come with coffee- and tea-making facilities, electronic safes, flat-screen TVs with free in-house movies, minibars, and air-conditioning. Bathrobes and ironing equipment are also provided. Bathrooms look more sophisticated than the rooms, with white tile and marble counters. They either have shower/tub combos, or bathtubs and separate showers, plus hairdryers and free toiletries. Wear and tear is apparent.
Features
Two restaurants and lounge, outdoor pool with whirlpool, fitness center, and spa
For a dated mid-range property, the Bayview offers a solid list of on-site features. There are two restaurants that include a Chinese eatery and one serving local and international dishes, as well as the free buffet breakfast. A lounge with a colorful mix of disjointed decor has a stage for live entertainment. The outdoor pool is decent-sized and includes a whirlpool, lounge chairs, and water vistas. There’s also a business center with desktop computers, and Wi-Fi is free throughout. The spa has well-regarded massages, as well as a sauna and steam room -- though these are showing wear. A spacious fitness center has basic, limited exercise equipment.
