The 94-room Palace Hotel is a mid-range property that combines a 19th century historic mansion and a modern building in a prime location overlooking Lame Como. In the center of the city of Como, the location is also ideal for exploring on foot. Rooms are quite spacious and decorated in a traditionally elegant style with modern conveniences including a minibar, safe, and flat-screen TV; some have lake views, balconies, and renovated, sleek bathrooms. The on-site restaurant, bar, and garden bar all provide convenient options for dining and drinking. Scene

A blend of two structures: a historic mansion and a modern building

The three-pearl Palace Hotel combines two adjoining buildings: The Plinius building is a 19th-century, art nouveau-style mansion built by Federico Frigero, and the Pianella wing is a modern building with a lake view. There's also a small building that houses the Garden Bar Ceccato, located in the front gardens of the hotel near the main road.

The spacious lobby of the Plinius building is decorated with red-brown walls, a front desk, and a few classic, upholstered white armchairs. From the lobby, wide hallways lead to the restaurants, bar, conference rooms, and the Pianella wing. Some of the hallways have royal-blue carpets, sculptures, and old-master paintings. Most guests are couples enjoying the romantic charm and restaurants of the hotel, though with its outstanding business features, many guests are also business travelers.

Location

Overlooking Lake Como and within walking distance to the ferry, Como Cathedral, and shopping and dining

The Palace Hotel is located in the center of Como and overlooks the city's beautiful lake. Its location makes a convenient base to explore different parts of the city and offers easy access to restaurants and shopping, which can be reached in less than three minutes on foot. As for tourist destinations, Como Cathedral, located in the Piazza Duomo, is only a four-minute walk away. The ferry is three minutes away by foot and allows guests to explore the villas of Lake Como. The train station is a three-minute walk from the hotel, and the Como-Brunate funicular train (which provides great views of Lake Como plus access to Brunate and Volta Lighthouse) is only a six-minute walk from the hotel.

Rooms

Spacious rooms and bathrooms, some with lake views and balcony

Rooms at the Palace Hotel have a tasteful, classic decor with white bedding, sage-colored carpet, and wooden furniture. Some rooms have paintings of cherubs over the bed and others have one wall covered in charming patterned wallpaper with vintage catalog images. Rooms are spacious and offer quite a bit of storage in their multiple closets, dressers, and desks. Modern amenities include a flat-screen TV, electric kettle, air-conditioning, minibar, free Wi-Fi, and a safe. Room upgrades provide more spacious rooms with separate living spaces or the added option of connecting a Classic Room and a Junior Suite to make a private apartment. Bathrooms differ depending on room type. They include one or two sinks with counter space, a shower/tub combo or a shower and a tub, a magnifying mirror, and a bidet. Guests have the option to book rooms with lake views and balconies. Executive Rooms feel the most polished, with larger flat-screen TVs, wood floors, and contemporary bathrooms with slate-gray tile.

Features

Five conference rooms, a restaurant, bar, and romantic garden bar

The hotel’s features fall into two categories: romantic and business amenities. Due to a recent renovation, the Palace Hotel now has a Business Area with five conference rooms that can hold up to 230 people. Conference rooms have a video- and data-projection screen, microphones, white board, and the capacity for videoconference and simultaneous instruction, among other technological amenities. Meeting room sizes vary, offering a range of options from theater seating to a large rectangular table with chairs; some even have lake views.

As for the romantic features, they includes an on-site restaurant, bar, private dining and event rooms, and a garden bar. The Plinius Room and the Magna Ballroom provide a luxurious and antique style for intimate dinners or events such as weddings. Additionally, the hotel has a hotel bar and a restaurant, Antica Darsena, that looks out onto the docks and has views of Lake Como. It serves lunch and dinner in an elegant space that has a blue and tan color scheme, Renaissance-style paintings, and a floral patterned carpet. The Garden Bar Ceccato is probably the most romantic feature of the hotel and serves drinks, ice cream, and small snack plates with a splendid view of the lake. It has indoor seating in a bright, well-lit area and outdoor patio seating.
