Albergo Terminus Hotel is a good alternative with a small gym, restaurant, and location closer to the lake.

Avenue Hotel is strikingly modern, which is surprising given its location in the historic center of Como, Italy. The small reception area features a chandelier of spherical lights hung over the front desk covered in mirror tiles. Behind the front desk is a small sitting area with a flat-screen TV and table with chairs to allow guests to relax and interact. This sitting room has a large wall art piece of purple flowers, which is similar to the zebra wall art in the small breakfast room. The hotel might have a minimalist vibe, but large photographs and wall quotes throughout add some flavor to the environment. Guests are generally tourist couples as the location is superb and there’s little in the way of amenities for families or business travelers.

Avenue Hotel is set in the heart of Como’s city center and guests can easily explore the small city on foot from the hotel’s location. It’s surrounded by shops and restaurants on all sides and is just a four-minute walk to the Como Cathedral. The lakefront takes seven minutes to reach on foot. The Parrocchia San Fedele church is just around the corner. It’s a 10-minute walk to the closest train station and a 45-minute drive to the Milan-Malpensa Airport.

The room design at Avenue Hotel is modern and minimalist with neutral flooring, a predominantly white color scheme with single-color accents, and clear or white furniture. Art pieces above the bed add some spice to the spaces with interesting subjects like goldfish, beakers filled with blue liquid, or single orange feathers. All of the rooms come with flat-screen TVs, minibars, air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and safes. Suites include coffeemakers and furnished balconies as well. Bathrooms are compact but cute with colorful tiles, bidets, small showers, hairdryers, and toiletries. Private water closets are a nice feature. Take note that ground floor rooms might not be ideal as they are reportedly noisier than upper-floor rooms.
