The 46-room Albergo Lenno is a moderately priced, mid-range boutique right on the shores of Italy's scenic Lake Como. The spectacular views plus convenient location near the ferry terminal and waterfront promenade are among the chief draws of this family-run property, as is the warm and hospitable service. Decor is drab and dated, however, which does nothing to complement the natural beauty outside. Amenities include an outdoor pool, a simple restaurant, and a comfortable cocktail lounge with a terrace overlooking the lake. Rooms are traditionally decorated, and some feature furnished balconies with amazing lake views. For the price and location, the Albergo Lenno is one of the better offerings in the area. Travelers might want to compare prices at the similar Hotel La Perla, which offers more cheerful rooms and equally spectacular vistas.
Scene
A family-run boutique on Italy's Lake Como offering beautiful views
The three-pearl Albergo Lenno is a warm, family-run property that is situated in a pink 1900s-era building adorned with black shutters and wrought iron balconies. Interiors are understated, with gray tiled floors, white walls, and groups of black wicker and gray upholstered chairs. Colorful abstract artworks, stone detailing, and an asymmetrical slab of wood for a coffee table add some interesting design elements to the lobby area. The tiled restaurant has tall wood chairs and is filled with natural light and views of the lake through large picture windows. While hospitality is a draw here, the decor is somewhat dated and drab, especially in the rooms. Still, couples seeking an excellent lakefront location will find the hotel provides a solid value.
Location
In the quiet and picturesque village of Lenno, within a short walk to the ferry terminal and the center of town
This hotel is situated in the town of Lenno on the shores of Lake Como. The ferry to scenic stops around the lake is located directly opposite the property, while the village center with restaurants and shopping can be reached via a short walk along the waterfront promenade. It's a nine-minute walk to the historic Villa del Balbianello, while the gardens of Villa Carlotta and the 18-hole Menaggio e Cadenabbia Golf Club are within a 15-minute taxi ride. The Como S. Giovanni Train Station is 36 minutes away by car and Milan's Malpensa Airport is about an hour away.
Rooms
Traditional, plainly decorated rooms, with large bathrooms and great views
The traditionally styled rooms in this family-run boutique are large and noise-free although drab in places and sparsely furnished. The wood of the chunky headboards matches the utilitarian desks, with small flat-screen TVs on top. Rooms also include rustic adobe tile floors, striped or solid-colored bedspreads, and framed prints of cherubs or famous paintings such as the Mona Lisa. Of course, the real draw here is the view, especially from rooms at the front of the building facing the lake. Some rooms have furnished balconies with lake views. There are also side lake view rooms with balconies. An attic room features steeply pitched timbered ceilings and skylights in the bedroom, bath, and sitting room. Tiled bathrooms are spacious, with glass-enclosed showers, bidets, toiletries, and wall-mounted hairdryers. However, they lack storage space and are a bit awkwardly laid out. Free Wi-Fi is available in all rooms.
Features
A restaurant, pool, veranda, and breakfast (for a fee)
Facilities at the Albergo Lenno aren't extensive, but enough to keep guests satisfied. There is a pleasant outdoor pool surrounded by lounge chairs and umbrellas. The hotel's bar and lounge area has several gray armchairs and opens to a lovely veranda with tables and chairs overlooking the lake. Additionally, the all-day restaurant serves simple but adequate fare; a separate breakfast room serves the morning repast for an additional fee. A small business center is found off the lobby, with just a couple of computers and a printer. Wi-Fi is free throughout and parking is available for an extra fee.
