The 385-room Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur Hotel caters to business travelers in the downtown area with numerous meeting rooms and five-pearl facilities. It's a bit far from Bukit Bintang and the central attractions that most shoppers and tourists prefer, but a nearby monorail station provides easy access across the city. All the brand hallmarks are here, including the trademark Sweet Sleeper beds in spacious, tastefully decorated rooms, along with an outdoor pool and a luxurious spa. Other features include a large and modern fitness center, fine-dining restaurants, and a lounge bar with live music. Travelers may also want to compare rates with the Hilton Kuala Lumpur, situated on the opposite end of the city center.
Scene
Business-friendly high-rise with a central atrium
The hotel's initial entryway is a relatively subdued hall with a geometric pattern spread across a wide marble floor and dark wood walls adorned with lattice accents. High-arched corridors and a grand staircase lead off into the more interesting interior and the heart of the hotel. Here an airy and impressive four-story atrium is dominated by cubist-style columns and massive cylindrical lights. Gleaming marble floors and high ceilings throughout the hotel give this five-pearl chain property a polished and posh feel, and the well-heeled clientele consists mainly of business travelers.
Location
In Chow Kit, on bustling Jalan Sultan Ismail Street
Located in the Chow Kit neighborhood, the Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur Hotel is surrounded by dining and nightlife options, but is not within walking distance of most tourist attractions. The large Quill City Mall is right across the street, and it's a three-minute walk to the Medan Tuanku monorail station, which gives easy access to the rest of the city. The Bukit Bintang shopping district is a four-minute drive away, while Berjaya Times Square is a few minutes farther. Kuala Lumpur International Airport is about an hour away by car.
Rooms
Large, elegant rooms with work desks and city views
The hotel's 385 rooms are a tasteful mix of Malay and Chinese decorative elements, with an earth-toned palate brightened by ornate fabrics. They have rich wood furnishings, wall sconces reminiscent of paper lanterns, and most have unobstructed city views. Even Standard Rooms are a sizable 452-square-feet, with hallmark Sheraton Sweet Sleeper beds, sitting areas, work desks, and minibars, along with 40-inch flat-screen TVs. The bathrooms have walk-in showers as well as separate soaking tubs. Upgraded club level rooms add free Wi-Fi, and access to the club lounge with free breakfast and drinks.
Features
Outdoor pool, full spa, multiple fine-dining options, business center, and meeting facilities
A large outdoor pool is on the fifth floor terrace with an accompanying hot tub and a poolside bar. The surrounding sundeck has loungers as well as covered cabanas and views of the city. Inside on the same floor, the Mandara Spa has its own large indoor hot tub, as well as a sauna and steam room to complement its Malay and Balinese-style treatment rooms. There are several dining options here from the casual international buffet at Essence, to the Celestial Court's fine Cantonese cuisine. Villa Danieli is an Italian restaurant styled after a posh country villa, while Sasagawa serves Japanese cuisine with a bamboo backdrop. There's also a contemporary cafe and a lounge bar with regular live music. Business facilities include the standard Link@Sheraton Internet lounge along with printing services in a dedicated business center. Event facilities include multiple meeting rooms, a large ballroom, and a separate mezzanine floor that serves as its own flexible conference venue. Wi-Fi is free in public areas, but incurs a fee for in-room use -- though it's free in Club Rooms and Suites and free for SPG members (the hotel's free loyalty club).
