The 426-room PARKROYAL Kuala Lumpur is centrally located within the popular Bukit Bintang shopping district, surrounded by dining and nightlife. The crowds and noise that come with the area can be an issue, and its mediocre standard rooms may surprise guests who expect more from the four-and-a-half pearl rating. But all the perks are saved for the updated club-level rooms, which also get free breakfast and drinks in the hotel's Orchid Lounge. For everyone else there are still three other eateries to choose from, along with an outdoor pool and a full spa. For families, the apartments at PARKROYAL Serviced Suites Kuala Lumpur may present better options.
Scene
Contemporary chain in an urban tower
PARKROYAL Kuala Lumpur does little to distinguish itself from other business-friendly properties or its neighbors, with its blocky glass-and-concrete facade. Inside, the hotel's entryway is a bright space with floor-to-ceiling windows that opens into a wide lobby with a marble floor. Sitting areas with low tables and black leather chairs are clustered around square columns of frosted glass or paneled wood. Colorful pendant lamps hang from the ceiling and at the far end of the space, a trio of front desks have a decoration reminiscent of fish scales. Club-level guests check in to a different area within the exclusive Orchid Lounge, past an indoor rock garden. The Orchid Club offers a spacious terrace with gray seating beneath red umbrellas, and an airy interior done in beige and wood. While the decor doesn't stand out here, there's a brightness throughout, thanks to plenty of windows, as well as outdoor space around the pool. Guests are a mix of corporate travelers, couples, and families.
Location
Centrally located near Berjaya Times Square
Right off the massive intersection of Jalan Imbi and Sultan Ismail, the PARKROYAL Kuala Lumpur is centrally located near shopping, nightlife, and public transportation. Berjaya Times Square in Bukit Bintang shopping district is a five-minute walk away, with the Pavilion mall seven minutes in the opposite direction. The Petronas Towers overlooking KL City Park, are an eight-minute drive. Nearby public transportation options include the Bukit Bintang monorail station and the Plaza Imbi bus stop, both about a five-minute walk from the hotel. It's around a 50-minute drive to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
Rooms
Standard or club-level rooms with somewhat bland decor and marble showers
The hotel's rooms are divided into standard offerings, including family suites, and more updated club-level rooms and suites. The standard rooms have a bright decor with light wood furnishings and mirrored accent walls. Some of the bland gray carpets could use updating, and we found old blinds that didn't function properly, along with a few stains and gouges that aren't up to the standards of a four-and-a-half pearl property. All rooms have desks with ergonomic chairs, minibars, coffee/tea facilities, flat-screen TVs, robes and slippers, hairdryers, safes, ironing facilities, daily newspapers, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms have marble walk-in showers with separate vanities in nooks outside the doors. The larger Orchid Club rooms have updated decor with an earth-tone palette and rich wood accents. The club rooms and suites include lounge access with a separate front desk, free breakfast buffet, and evening cocktails.
Features
Outdoor pool, three restaurants, full spa, fitness center, and meeting rooms
On a sixth-floor terrace, the outdoor pool is set in a sundeck with loungers beside a pool bar. On the same floor, the St. Gregory Spa has various massages as well as bath treatments in traditional ‘Mu Tong’ tubs. A large fitness center equipped with treadmills, cardio bikes, and weight machines has a view to the pool through big picture windows. The hotel's dining options abound with Western and Malaysian food at Chatz Brasserie's open show kitchen. Si Chuan Dou Hua serves traditional Chinese tea service with Sichuan and Cantonese cuisine, while Kurata has contemporary Japanese fare. A casual cafe on the lobby level, Hot Gossip, has to-go options with pastries, salads, and sandwiches, and Klix Lounge functions as a coffee shop by day, then a live music bar by night. There's also a business center with workstations, printing services, and an adjacent private meeting room. There are 14 meeting rooms total, with indoor and outdoor space available.
