Scene
Historic property with elegant decor and front doors that open onto Main Market Square
Hotel Wentzl’s decor reflects the atmosphere of its location in the heart of Krakow, and it’s the only hotel whose front doors open onto the historic Main Market Square. Originally constructed in the 16th century as a family home, the building offers an elegant facade with subtle molded details and arched windows. An 18th century fresco is still displayed in rich color on the front of the building. Antique settees, pheasant lamps, Persian rugs, silky curtains, and rich wood accents, such as exposed beam ceilings, are the sort of Old-World details that create the luxurious feel of a period mansion. But modern decor is also present, such as thick black and white striped carpet, metallic accents, and hanging fringe that covers the walls. The hotel’s proximity to sightseeing hotspots make it ideal for tourists, while its elegant, upscale decor give it a romantic feel that’s perfect for couples.
Location
Situated on the corner of the historic Main Market Square in the heart of Krakow
Hotel Wentzl is the only hotel whose front doors open onto the historic Main Market Square (Rynek Glówny) in the heart of Krakow. This means that the hotel is in easy walking distance to a plethora of museums, restaurants, and theaters. Since the square is largely closed to traffic, the hustle and bustle is mainly in the form of zigzagging pedestrians, and guests worried about the noise can rest assured that the hotel has double-paned windows. Since cars cannot drive directly to the hotel’s front entrance, guests should note that luggage needs to be carried on foot. Parking, with valet assistance for luggage, is located a few minutes from the hotel for an extra fee. Wentzel also offers airport pick-up and drop-off services and car rental services. Guests can make use of the hotel’s two bikes, free of charge.- One-minute walk to Rynek Glówny (Main Market Square)
Rooms
Exquisite decor with an elegant and eclectic combination of period details and modern style
The Hotel Wentzl’s guest rooms feature exquisite decor with an elegant and eclectic combination of Old-World style and modern convenience. While all 18 rooms offer period charm and beautiful details, each room has a completely individual decor that ventures way beyond the generic, giving guests the feeling that they're staying in a mansion rather than a hotel. Rooms may feature painted ceilings with exposed wood beams, silky damask bedding, wood floors with Persian rugs, a polka-dot settee, floor to ceiling curtains, or a canopy bed. All rooms have natural wood furniture and come equipped with free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs with DVD players and speaker systems, and safes. Rooms also have minibars and coffee and tea service, including Nespresso coffee machines and electric kettles. Bathrooms are also different from room to room, but all offer luxurious details -- one has black damask tiled walls and a hanging chandelier, another has an exposed brick wall, illuminated with candle-like sconce lighting, and yet another is fully tiled in marble. Each bathroom features a shower, sink, and toilet, and come equipped with a hairdryer, robes, slippers, a scale, and individual toiletries. For spectacular views, travelers should book a room that faces the square. Double-pane windows makes noise a non-issue.
Features
Breakfast buffet and bikes to borrow
One of the biggest downsides of the hotel is that it has no real common areas, though guests say its location on the square means there are plenty of spaces to hangout beyond the hotel. The main common space is the breakfast room, which becomes the Wentzl Restaurant later in the day (not operated by the hotel). The breakfast room is elegant, though, with Baroque decor featuring a wood floor with a Persian rug, puffy curtains, wood tables and chairs, and old framed pictures on the walls. The breakfast is good but pricey (not included in the room rate), with a buffet and a la carte options. Two other eateries, the Slodki Wentzl Cafe and the Marcello Italian Restaurant, are located on-site (also not run by the hotel). While there's no fitness center or spa, in-room massage service is available. The hotel offers a range of other services, including a 24-hour front desk and concierge, laundry and ironing, and luggage storage. Two bikes are available for guests to borrow, and Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
