The 205-room Hotel Galaxy is an upscale, modern hotel with a subtle space theme and trendy decor. The hotel has a large spa and wellness area with a stylish indoor pool, 11 treatment rooms, and a climbing wall, among other features, but the fitness center is a bit small. The restaurant serves a free breakfast buffet, plus there's a lobby bar. There's also a large conference center, and families are catered to with a variety of kid-friendly amenities. Spacious, contemporary rooms include sitting areas, minibars, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. But the location is a bit far from sights -- it's a 25-minute walk to Main Market Square, but there's a free shuttle that goes to the city center. For something in the historic Old Town, travelers may want to consider the Hotel Wentzl, though it doesn't offer as many amenities.
Scene
Upscale hotel with contemporary interiors and subtle space theme
Built in 2011, the Hotel Galaxy is situated in a large beige and gray corner building with modern red accents. The entry hall is painted with a large mural of the solar system, and the outer-space theme continues throughout the property in more subtle form. A large, bright lobby features floor-to-ceiling windows, a gray and white tiled floor, and white and purple walls. Silver droplet pendants hang over the lobby bar, giving it a modern air, while a lounge features leathery white and purple cup-shaped armchairs that throw a nod toward space-age design. A staircase ascends past windows and cafe tables to a second-story restaurant that overlooks the lobby. Even the hallways at this hotel aren't an afterthought, and many feature accents like small planters or moody lighting. With stylish design, a large spa, and kid-friendly amenities, this is a hotspot for couples and families, but large conference rooms make it ideal for business travelers too.
Location
Along the river, 15-minute walk to Jewish Quarter -- but a bit far from the Old Town
The Hotel Galaxy is situated a block from the Vistula River in a corporate area slightly outside of the historic city center, though several eateries and shopping establishments are in the neighborhood. The Kazimierz Shopping Centre is just a short walk from the hotel, with plenty of shops, fast food dining, and a cinema. Sights like the Jewish Quarter are also in walking distance, though it takes a longer stroll (or a short car ride) to reach Main Market Square in the heart of Krakow's Old Town. (The hotel also offers a free area shuttle throughout the day.) The popular Hop On Hop Off Bus stops directly in front of the hotel. Airport and train station shuttles are also available, though these cost extra fees.
Rooms
Spacious, modern rooms with sitting areas, minibars, and flat-screen TVs
Guest rooms are spacious and modern, with space-themed art on the walls and purple and gray fabric touches for a little decorative flair. Even Standard Rooms contain sitting areas, including large, slouchy gray microsuede chairs and space-age-inspired, cup-shaped armchairs upholstered in purple. Rooms also include small desks as well as wardrobes with storage space and laptop-compatible safes.
Modern beige-tiled bathrooms include a roomy standing shower, soap dispensers, hairdryers, and a white-noise machine of birdsong playing in the background, though these can be switched off. Some upgraded rooms have shower/tub combos. These rooms have windows between the bedrooms and the bathrooms, but they can be covered with blinds.
Standard Rooms and Business Class Rooms have either two twins or one double bed; Suite Apartments have separate living areas, king-size beds, and views of the river. Connecting rooms are also available. In-room amenities in all include 32-inch flat-screen TVs with satellite service, remote-controlled AC and heating, and free Wi-Fi. Additionally, rooms have minibars, free bottled water, and coffee/tea service. Upgraded rooms are stocked with bathrobes and slippers and include other extras, such as free newspaper delivery and free laundry and ironing services.
Features
Indoor pool, full-service spa, restaurant with free breakfast, and kid-friendly amenities
One of Hotel Galaxy's biggest selling points is its extensive on-site amenities. The hotel has a Spa and Wellness Center with a wide range of features including an indoor pool, a sauna, a steam room, a climbing wall, a fitness area, a locker room, and 11 treatment rooms. The indoor pool is stylish and modern, with a small bridge over the pool, a saltwater hot tub, and lounge space. A huge range of spa services are offered, including beauty treatments, aromatherapy, waxes, massages, manicures, and pedicures. The climbing wall is long, but not very tall, making it more suitable for children than adults. It's situated in a hallway, with a padded mat that helps guard against falls. Compared to the other facilities, the fitness area is a bit of a letdown, with only a few cardio and weightlifting machines (only one treadmill) situated in a clean but windowless room. The swimming pool and sauna are closed seasonally from mid-February to early April for maintenance.
The Andromeda Restaurant features windows with views of the river, and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The breakfast is free, and guests tend to be satisfied with a selection of cold and hot items, including fresh-squeezed juice and made-to-order eggs. The hotel also has a small lobby bar and lounge near the reception desk, and guests find the prices here comparable to local bars. Room service is available 24-hours.
Children get their own welcome gift and the hotel restaurant offers children's menus and utensils, disposable bibs, and coloring kits. Rooms can be equipped with baby baths and toilets, socket safety covers, changing tables, disposable thermometers, and other kid-friendly amenities. Babysitting can be arranged. A few spa services are available for children, as are toys for the pool.
Business travelers are catered to with a conference center and several modern event and meeting rooms, including a terrace and a large banquet hall that can host up to 600 people. The hotel also has an ATM machine and a small shop that sells souvenirs, snacks, and drinks. A range of other services include a 24-hour front desk and a concierge who can help book tours or arrange for transport, including bike rentals. The hotel has its own shuttle service that goes to area sights and an airport shuttle, though the latter costs an extra fee. Laundry and dry cleaning are free for guests in upgraded rooms, but can otherwise be arranged for a fee.
