Located in the small resort area of Kardamena, Mitsis Norida Beach Hotel lives up to the expectations of an all-inclusive, three-pearl resort. The property has three main restaurants and several smaller casual food options, plus seven bars throughout the property. Ample recreational opportunities on-site include free canoeing and windsurfing, and an animations team that puts on shows in the evenings. Kids have plenty else to do here as well, with options like a kids' club, special restaurant, and an evening disco just for them. The 455 rooms, however, are simple and showing wear, though they have hairdryers, minibars, and furnished outdoor spaces. Travelers looking for more modern rooms and an on-site spa should consider Lagas Aegean Village.
Scene
Great for families looking for an entertaining all-inclusive
The Mitsis Norida looks fairly bland from the outside and in the lobby -- low-rise building with generic white stucco -- but the best part of the property is past the front doors. The whole property was renovated in 2012 and is superbly maintained, with beautiful grounds criss-crossed with pathways and dotted with palms. The beach is about 30 seconds from some of the bungalows (though others are quite far from the main building) and the water is crystal clear. Guests here can also head to the Mitsis Rameria Beach Hotel in Kos Town proper and use those facilities for free. Lots of kids and families stay here, so those looking for an adult-focused vacation might be disappointed with just one child-free bar on the property. Those who want to keep it kids-free will have to turn to Aqua Blu Boutique Hotel + Spa in Kos Town proper.
Location
Far from Kos Town proper, but close to the airport
The Mitsis Norida Beach Hotel is located next door to two other Mitsis hotels in the resort town of Kardamena. With the beach a 30-second walk from some of the bungalows, guests don't have to go far for water. On the downside, there's not much around the property besides the other hotels. Kos Airport is 15 minutes away by taxi, but the harbor for onward travel is 40 minutes by taxi.
Rooms
Simple, dated rooms with furnished outdoor spaces
Each of the property's 455 rooms, scattered between the main building and 25 white-and-cobalt bungalows, are simply decorated in a mostly traditional Greek style -- think lots of white, light blues, and florals. Though comfortable, the rooms are a bit dated and beginning to show wear, which is somewhat surprising given the 2012 renovation. Rooms have views of the hotel's gardens or the ocean from the furnished balconies and large terraces -- not surprisingly, the sea view is worth it. Some of the bungalows are quite far away from the main building, so if that's a concern, it's best to request a room in the main building when booking.
The marble bathrooms vary in size between rooms, with some guests complaining that theirs were far too small. There's plenty of counter space, and each comes with shower/tub combos, slippers, and Olivia toiletries. Each room has a TV with satellite channels, but some of the TVs are old tube-style and only one channel is available in English (news). Staff refills mini-fridges every two days, though there isn't much in them to begin with. There aren't any tea- or coffee-making facilities in the rooms. Safes are available for an extra charge.
Features
Wide array of dining, drinking, and recreational options
The all-inclusive property has plenty of places to eat and drink at, which is especially nice for longer stays. There's a main dining restaurant, which serves an American-style breakfast and international cuisine with themed nights. Additionally, there are a tavern serving primarily Italian food, and an Asian restaurant. Food is excellent across the board -- especially the pizza place on the beach -- but vegetarians might find their options limited. There are also a whopping seven bars (one adult-only) scattered throughout the property, including poolside ones.
When guests aren't taking advantage of the all-inclusive food and drink, there's enough to do on-site for most. Those needing a water fix can hit up an outdoor seawater swimming pool, an outdoor freshwater pool with three waterslides (one just for kids), a relaxation pool, or the sandy beach, which is dotted cheerfully with bright-yellow umbrellas. There are also two tennis courts, beach volleyball, water polo, and basketball available. Canoes, pedal boats, and windsurfers are also available to guests for free. There's even a tiny traditional church on-site.
An open-air theater holds up to 700 people and hosts excellent shows by the animation team, as well as an on-site disco (the karaoke is worth skipping, however). Programming for teens and kids, including plays, crafts, and clubs by age group, as well as a restaurant and disco just for kids, help make this property particularly family-friendly.
The hotel also offers dry-cleaning and laundry, a mini-market and souvenir shop, and hairdresser, but no spa. Free Wi-Fi is only available in the lobby, and the reception is poor with quite a few people trying to access it. Paid Wi-Fi, which extends to the rooms and throughout the property, is on the pricey side. Plenty of free parking is available.
