Bottom Line
The 324-room Horizon Beach Resort gets a large number of returning guests -- mostly families and couples -- who get a special managerial welcome, wine and fruit, free Wi-Fi, and late check-out. The hotel offers all guests direct beach access, sculpted gardens, ample sports facilities, four pools, laundry services, and casual beach and poolside dining. Traditional, large rooms have balconies and sea views. The rather isolated location, though, is a common complaint. The Hotel Marmari Beach has a livelier atmosphere, with a waterslide pool.

Scene
Family beach hotel with occassional luxurious touches and lively pool scene
The Horizon's spacious hotel lobby and large landscaped grounds appeal to families and couples (primarily from Germany), who want a quiet vacation spot that's free of boisterous crowds. Stained-glass ceiling lights and a replica of the Delphi Charioteer bronze statue from the Delphi Museum are luxurious touches in the sprawling lobby, which also features marble floors and traditional gray sofas. However, the gardens -- with sculpted spiral trees, palms, pools, and lawns -- and the nearby sandy beach outshine the hotel’s interior designs. The large family pool offers blue umbrellas and lounge chairs on the deck with a nearby kids' pool. The main pool -- where the hotel’s animation team hosts water polo and aerobics -- has a bridge, a kids' pool, and a large deck. The beach features a wooden walkway, two changing rooms, three showers, beige lounge chairs, and umbrellas. Past visitors have commented that there is a lot of sediment mixed in with the sand.
Location
On a quiet, remote street in Mastichari
The hotel is located on the outskirts of the Matsichari fishing village, ideal for travelers wanting a quiet and relaxing vacation. The country road that leads to the resort is quiet, with little traffic. It's a two-minute walk to the beach and the waterfront Horizon Surfing Center, and 16 minutes by car to the airport. The town of Kos -- home to the Castle Neratzia and the Roman Odeon of Kos -- is a 20-minute drive away. Komos Rent a Car is a four-minute drive from the hotel and bikes can be rented on-site. Guests who'd rather rely on public transportation can catch a bus from right outside the hotel.
