Bottom Line

The 330-room Eurovillage Achilleas Hotel is geared toward families who want to pay low rates for an upper-mid-range hotel that's both a quick drive to a water park and a short walk to the beach. It's equipped with kid-friendly facilities including a children's pool (and a separate adults-only pool), sports courts, casual poolside or seaside eateries, an amphitheater, and two kids’ club. Rooms are large and traditional and have balconies or terraces. To the dismay of some guests, the hotel charges extra for Wi-Fi, though the all-inclusive package keeps food costs low. The Princess of Kos, is a reasonable family-friendly alternative in the area and has free air-conditioning.

Scene

Budget hotel with classic decor and kid-friendly facilities

Greek details have been infused into the interiors and exteriors of the Eurovillage Achilleas Hotel, which attracts families with children and  -- to a lesser extent -- vacationing couples. Charming archways at the entrance lead into the lobby, which is decorated with checkered marble floors, Greek murals and sculptures, and comfortable furniture. Cream leather sofas and chairs are centered around a coffee table overflowing with books and magazines. The hotel's tropical grounds are manicured and furnished with Greek sculptures. Olive trees and flowering bushes add color and a sense of place.

Location

On the northwest side of Kos island, near the Lido Water Park

The hotel is conveniently located on the northwest side of the island of Kos. It’s a short five-minute walk to the beach and a 10-minute drive to the Lido Water Park. The fishing village of Mastichiari is reachable on foot in 25 minutes. The town of Kos takes just under a half hour by car or bus; popular attractions in the town include the Nearatzia Castle, the Ancient Agora,  and the Roman Odeon. The airport is 15 minutes by car.

Rooms

Family rooms with traditional decor, flat-screen TVs, and balconies -- some with sea views

Guests can choose either Standard twin rooms or larger Family rooms, which can sleep up four people. Rooms have traditional furnishings, including beige tile floors, light wood furniture, and blue curtains and bedspreads, as well as balconies, some with sea views. Although mini-fridges are free for guest use, safes and air-conditioning all cost extra. Bathrooms have shower/tub combos and telephones. All rooms have flat-screen TVs with satellite channels. Toiletries and a wall-mounted hairdryer are provided. Overall, the rooms are clean and spacious but a little bit bland and sparse.

Features

Family-friendly activities and restaurants

Whether guests are craving snacks at the pool or a themed Asian dining night, the hotel has enough restaurants to appease most eaters. There’s a snack bar at the pool and another one by the beach. The themed restaurant offers international fare in a classic setting with tiled floors, and the main restaurant serves meals buffet style, and can get crowded during peak meal times. The main bar has a casual vibe, green checkered floors, green ivy leaves on the ceiling, wood decor, and a terrace. All-inclusive packages keep costs low, though some guests have complained the food caters to Western diets at the expense of traditional Greek fare. The property also has two pools, including a children's pool with pool toys. Each pool is surrounded by blue, green, orange, and yellow lounge chairs with wicker parasols. Some guests complain that the tile deck areas around the pools can get slippery. There's also a sandy beach furnished with showers, a changing room, colorful umbrellas, and lounge chairs, which can be rented out for a charge.

A colorful kids' club includes an indoor classroom and outdoor sandpit with equipment. There's a nearby stage for nightly entertainment. A mini-golf course, tennis courts, basketball, and soccer add more fun activities to the list of fun for little ones.
