Pinnacle Koh Tao Resort
26/20 Moo 3, June Juea Bay

The three-and-a-half pearl Pinnacle Koh Tao Dive Resort is a cliffside property with a remote beachfront location. Although removed from the main town, it provides a quiet stay and plenty to do thanks to amenities like a gorgeous swimming pool, private beach, dive school with a private fleet of dive boats, free hot breakfast buffet, restaurant, bar, and free Wi-Fi. The 45 contemporary rooms are air-conditioned and come with balconies, kettles, and minibars; some rooms have lovely sea views. The walkways are steep, but the hotel does have an in-resort shuttle that’s convenient to use. Travelers could also consider Charm Churee Village as an alternative, as it has a massage hut on the private beach and an overall romantic vibe.

Koh Tao Montra Resort & Spa
1/51 Moo 2

Koh Tao Montra Resort is a three-pearl beachfront hotel with a relaxed family-friendly vibe and a great range of facilities. Ideally located in a quiet part of downtown, a short walk from both Mae Haad Pier and Sairee Beach. Facilities include a large infinity swimming pool with a swim-up bar, a beachfront restaurant, a spa and gym, a tour-desk, and affiliated dive center. Sixty rooms are clean and pleasant with options including spacious suites, pool villas with ocean views, and two-bedroom family rooms. Interiors blend contemporary stylings with traditional Thai decor, and rooms have balcony seating areas and modern amenities. The beachfront is fairly quiet and nice for lounging or walks, but not as clean as neighboring beaches. Another hotel in the area worth considering is the Sensi Paradise, which has a multi-tiered pool.

The Tarna Align Resort
33, Moo 1

Perched on a hill with scenic views of Sairee Beach and the Gulf of Thailand, Tarna Align Resort offers a modern, upscale stay in relaxed Koh Tao. The 29 stylish rooms offer flat-screen TVs with cable channels, air-conditioning, and safes, plus outdoor spaces with hot tubs or direct pool access in some. Two restaurants serve Japanese, Thai, and Western cuisines, plus free buffet breakfasts that receive great reviews. Also on-site are a dive center and two swimming pools, one for relaxation and the other mostly used for diving lessons. Travelers looking to stay right on Sairee Beach should compare rates at the Koh Tao Cabana, which has a spa and villas with rustic-chic decor.

Haadtien Beach Resort
19/9 Moo 3

Haadtien Beach Resort is not just the best upscale pick on Koh Tao, it's the only upscale pick on Koh Tao. It's also the only resort on the island's most beautiful beach, but the remote locale means there is no village within walking distance, and the resort takes full advantage of this by charging relatively high prices for food and drink. The rustic-luxe, bungalow-style villas have plenty of romantic appeal, and the lush, sprawling property dotted with coconut palms has a chic, ocean-view swimming pool and a (pricey) spa. It's easily the top choice on Koh Tao for honeymooners, or anyone in search of a special beach escape. Jamahkiri has similar prices, but its rooms aren't as charming and its beach is small and manmade.

Monkey Flower Villas
19/6 Moo 1

The Monkey Flower Villas is an upper-middle-range collection of four villas set a 10-minute walk to Sairee Beach and a three-minute drive to town. All villas were built to incorporate natural rock formations and come with gorgeous ocean and jungle views from furnished outdoor spaces. Free Wi-Fi, mini-fridges, and electric kettles are provided; some villas have the added benefits of kitchenettes and three of the villas have private pools. There’s no communal pool, gym, or restaurant here, though a full English breakfast can be delivered to rooms for a fee and a 24-hour car and driver service is available to all guests, which isn’t often found on the island. As an alternative, Koh Tao Bamboo Huts has a good beachfront location and on-site restaurants.

Koh Tao Cabana
16 Moo 1, Baan Haad Sai Ree

Koh Tao Cabana is a quiet upscale property located on pretty Sai Ree Beach near the island's main strip. With a secluded setting, intimate restaurant, and a spa with treatments for two, the hotel caters mostly to couples and honeymooners, though there are family-friendly amenities like a playground for families. The 33 cabanas range from charming to sharp, with rustic-chic decor and Modernist touches, plus open-air bathrooms, flat-screen TVs, and air-conditioning. Guests looking for another upscale choice on Koh Tao should consider The Haad Tien Beach Resort, which has a sleeker infinity pool and gorgeous wood-clad villas.

Asia Divers Resort
18/1 Moo 1, Sairee Beach

Asia Resort is a value hotel and dive-center, located along Koh Tao’s main downtown strip. The hotel isn’t beachfront, but it's a five-minute walk from Sairee Beach. There are also plenty of great nightlife spots, restaurants, and shops within easy walking distance. The barebones Standard Rooms with Fans lack air-conditioning or hot-water showers and are essentially budget crash pads. Higher-tier rooms offer a full set of modern amenities, though are also fairly basic and somewhat dated. Facilities include an outdoor swimming pool (often busy with dive trainings), a multi-cuisine restaurant, and a PADI certified dive-center. Another hotel in the area worth considering is the Seashell Resort, which features an excellent range of facilities and is located right along the white sands of Sairee Beach.

Montalay Beach Resort
53 Moo 3, Tanote Bay

Located on the island of Koh Tao, Montalay Beach Resort is an ideal spot to escape the crowds and get to one of the area's most beautiful, hard-to-reach beaches. While the rooms and facilities here really aren’t much to write home about, the general location is lovely, and the resort has the only swimming pool on Tanote Beach as well as a diving center. Spa and massage services are available as well. View Point and Chinatakiri Resorts have nicer rooms often for similar (or just slightly higher) prices, but some may prefer to stay here for easy access to a gorgeous stretch of sand and some of Koh Tao's best snorkeling.

The Rocks Villas
15/48 Moo 1

The Rocks Villas is a family-run mid-range boutique hotel perched on a steep cliffside, a five-minute drive from Sairee Beach. A stay here is all about the panoramic ocean views and the absolute peace and quiet. The property only has four villas and a small infinity swimming pool. There is no restaurant, so all meals have to be ordered in. Villas feature separate living rooms, kitchenettes or full-service kitchens, and balconies with ocean views. Amenities include flat-screen TVs, Bluetooth speakers, and espresso machines. Guests should note that the steep road from the hotel into town is a strenuous climb and local taxis are expensive. Free transfers to Mae Haad Pier are provided upon arrival and departure, but must be pre-booked. For a beachfront alternative, consider the Koh Tao Bamboo Huts.

Ao Muong Resort
Bann Ao Muong, Mango Bay

The Ao Muong Resort is a two-pearl hotel set along a stunning cliffside, with simple rustic dwellings overlooking the picturesque Mango Bay. This tranquil wilderness retreat has exceptional scenery but is back to basics with generator power (no daytime electricity) and steep climbs. The remote beachfront location is only accessible by boat (free transfers) or off-road vehicle and the property doesn't include any facilities except for a simple restaurant. The intimate white-sand bay offers great snorkeling, but can get a bit crowded with day trippers. The 25 rooms (suites or standalone bungalows) have wood-clad interiors, modern amenities, large windows, and balcony seating areas. Guests wanting to stay closer to downtown Koh Tao may want to consider Taatoh Resort & Freedom Beach Resort, which also features a scenic beachfront location.
