Melia Zanzibar
Kiwengwa 00200

The 124-room Melia Zanzibar is a luxurious beachfront resort in northern Zanzibar. Rooms are large and airy, while private villas have huge gardens and plunge pools. There are several board packages available, plus plenty of on-site activities and facilities, including an excellent spa, a fitness center, and a huge pool. Guests wanting to try out water sports can take a free golf cart ride up the beach to the nearby Gabi Beach Club. The family-friendly resort also has a kids' club (open in the high season), but it's not as rowdy or activity-packed as the Ocean Paradise Resort & Spa, a nearby all-inclusive that has a more family-focused environment.

Ocean Paradise Resort & Spa
Kiwengwa Road, Pwani Mchangani

Ocean Paradise Resort & Spa is a large three-and-a-half-pearl resort on the northeast coast of Zanzibar. The 100 rooms here are big and many have ocean views, though the decor is a little tired. There are three restaurants on-site serving international and Zanzibari cuisine, a huge lagoon-style pool with a swim-up bar, a spa, fitness center, and shops. There are some small annoyances: Wi-Fi is only free in the lobby and guests with limited mobility should note that there are lots of stairs throughout the property. Guests wanting a slightly higher level of luxury, and who don't mind spending a bit more, should consider Dream of Zanzibar.

Bluebay Beach Resort And Spa
Kiwengwa 73111 Tanzania

The three-and-a-half-pearl, 112-room Bluebay Beach Resort and Spa is a beachfront property catering to families and couples alike. The hotel’s three restaurants, poolside bar, nightclub, and spa stay uncrowded thanks to its 30 acres of space. Rooms are pleasant, and have subtle rustic and local touches, plus features like flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, and free Wi-FI. Unfortunately, all-inclusive rates can be restrictive, and while the seaside pool is nice, the beach here isn't great for swimming. There are also arcade games and a kids' club for those traveling with children. Travelers who would rather swim in the ocean should head to north Zanzibar instead. Check out the Doubletree Resort by Hilton Hotel Zanzibar- Nungwi as an option, though rates are higher.
