The upper-middle-range Park Place
Apartments is a family-owned complex of apartments and duplex
townhouses located in the center of Killarney near bus and train stations. Each of the 73 units is completely
self-contained, with well-equipped kitchens, comfortable lounges, and spacious
bedrooms -- some also open to shared or private terraces. Wi-Fi is only
available in some of the property, however, and some road noise can be heard
despite double glazing. Overall though, for families and small groups looking
for clean and comfortable self-catering option -- with free on-site parking --
this is a solid choice.
Scene
An upscale apartment and townhouse complex with a welcoming ambience
Opened in 2007, Park
Place Apartments is a modern complex of one and two bedroom units as well
as collection of duplex townhouses. Owned by a local family -- who also own
some hotels in the region -- there's a real emphasis on creating a homey vibe,
with a welcoming lounge and reception area decked out in wood paneling and
patterned wallpaper. The accommodation is smart and well-maintained throughout
with most of the apartments centered on a pleasant sheltered courtyard dotted
with potted bamboo. These accommodations are particularly popular with families and small
groups looking for an upscale self-catering option though still with some of
the service you'd expect from a hotel.
Location
At the top of Killarney's High Street opposite the junction with the Ring of Kerry highway
The apartment complex is
located on a relatively busy junction at the end of Killarney's High Street.
The immediate area is a mixture of retail and residential properties, and it's a busy
spot with lots of activity on the street throughout the day and evening.
Killarney bus and rail stations are about 10 minutes' walk away meaning easy
access by public transport to the lush wooded mountains, lakes, and valleys of Killarney
National Park, about 35 minutes away by bus. Practically overlooking the Ring of Kerry highway and tourist route, which is just a five-minute drive away, the location also has easy access by car around some of Kerry's most picturesque
landscapes. Kerry Airport is about
25 minutes away by car.
Rooms
Well-equipped kitchens and lounges with satellite TV -- some with terraces
Apartments are
clean and well-maintained made up of one or two bedrooms, bathrooms, and
open-plan kitchens/dining/lounge areas, while townhouses have separate lounges.
Some of the apartments share terraces while others have private patios making
pleasant sunny pockets during warmer weather. Lounges have comfy sofas and 32-inch
flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, while kitchens come fully equipped for
self-catering and laundry (though not dishwashers). The decor -- navy patterned carpets, blond-wood cabinets, and white leather couches -- is hardly high-style, but it's comfortable and well-considered. Bathrooms are modern with
step-in showers in apartments and jetted tubs in the townhouses. While bedrooms
are generally spacious, the double beds might feel a little small for some. All accommodation windows are double glazed, though
those apartments overlooking the junction are prone to some noise.
Features
Free secure underground parking though limited Wi-Fi coverage
Being serviced apartments, there's not a lot in the way of on-site facilities beyond the
accommodations themselves. There's no restaurant or bar; guests are expected to make use of their own private kitchens. A large secure underground car park is available to guests free
of charge -- one space per property (though extras can be pre-arranged). While
some of the apartments have free Wi-Fi, there's very limited coverage in the
townhouses. There's also a narrow window when guests can check-in with a fee
for late arrivals, however staff are usually on hand to help with bookings and
enquiries. Leisure and swimming pool facilities are available to guests at a
discounted rate in the Killarney Towers Hotel, a five minutes' walk away.
