Bottom Line

Maggie O's Bed

hospitable hostess. The three well-presented bedrooms have large, comfortable beds, free
Wi-Fi, and flat-screen TVs. Breakfast is also excellent, freshly made with
home-baked bread, while a free taxi service is a rare bonus. Bathrooms are on
the small side, and the location is a bit off the beaten track, though the city center is

Scene

Welcoming bed-and-breakfast with elegant touches in modern red-brick house

Set in a row of almost
identical red-brick houses, there's nothing beyond a sign that distinguishes Maggie
O's as a bed-and-breakfast. Stepping inside, too, guests will find little to indicate that they haven't walked into a typical family home -- albeit
a particularly clean and tidy one. A lounge-and-breakfast room is the
hub of the house, and decorated in sumptuous fabrics with a carved stone fireplace,
polished wood floors, and pair of cut-glass chandeliers, plus three tables
overlooking the garden. This small, three-bedroom bed-and-breakfast is owned and run by a
local family who have been receiving guests since 1999. The atmosphere is
friendly and casual, and hostess Margaret (Maggie) Casey is especially helpful and hospitable.

Location

Set in quiet residential area within walking distance of Killarney center

The bed-and-breakfast is
located a little off the beaten track within the quiet residential neighborhood
of Dromhale, surrounded by other family homes and a small green. While the property
is near the center of Killarney -- about a 10 minutes' walk away-- it's well
enough away from the hustle and bustle of the city's night life. Local
attractions such as Ross Castle and the start of the famous Killarney National
Park are a five- to 10-minute drive, while the Ring of Kerry N71 carriageway and
tourist route is also practically on the hotel's doorstep, meaning easy access
by car around some of County Kerry's most picturesque landscape.

Rooms

Three spacious and well-presented rooms with extra comfy beds

The three rooms
are spacious and well-presented, with a mixture of contemporary and homey
styling. The two upstairs rooms are purple, with carpeted floors, and the third is on the
ground level -- it has a brighter feel and a wood floor. All rooms have free Wi-Fi,
flat-screen TVs, and beds are large and
comfortable. En-suite bathrooms are clean and traditionally-styled, with step-in
showers, though they are on the small side with no bathtubs.

Features

Excellent breakfast, including smoked salmon and home-baked soda bread

As with most bed-and-breakfasts, the main feature is the free breakfast, and this one does not
disappoint. The morning spread consists of a range of choices, from the traditional
cooked Irish breakfast to smoked salmon, pancakes, French toast, and mixed omelets.
A cup of mixed fruit is served with all the dishes, and Maggie O's also bakes its own
soda bread. Breakfast outside the normal hours can also be arranged.
Off-street parking is available, and the owners also offer a free pick-up service from Killarney bus and rail stations.
