The 72-room Dromhall Hotel is a family-owned upscale
property within walking distance to Killarney’s town center. The elegant,
bright interiors are traditionally decorated with antique furnishings, damask
wallpapers, and patterned armchairs and sofas; inviting common spaces include a lovely lounge with a fireplace and selection of books. Guests
also have access to a leisure center located in an adjacent property with an
indoor pool, sauna, steam room, and full-service spa. There are two restaurants
on-site: a relaxed bar and bistro and a more refined dining room, both serving
local, seasonal menus. Rooms have marble bathrooms, and many have mountain views. For the price, though, it may also be worth considering Sheen Falls Lodge, a 300-acre estate with more activities.
Scene
Upscale family-owned hotel in Killarney with elegant, traditional decor
The elegant interiors of the Dromhall Hotel are full of
classic, old-world style details including antique furnishings, decorative
ceiling moldings, and oil paintings and mirrors in gilded frames. Guests are
greeted in a lovely, bright lobby that’s illuminated by a large skylight, with
green walls that are complemented by white trimmings and a black and white
tiled floor. There’s plenty of seating, with black and gold leaf-patterned
armchairs and sofas scattered about flanking coffee tables and a lovely
fireplace. Elsewhere, the traditionally decorated lounge features a tasteful
array of patterns, from the golden yellow damask wallpaper on the walls, to
gold hued damask patterns on crimson couches, plaid armchairs, and designs on
the navy carpet. An oil painting in a gilded frame hangs over the marble
fireplace that is flanked by white wooden bookshelves stocked with a small
selection of reads. The effect is elegant, yet cozy, with plenty of plush seats
to settle into. The hotel’s classy yellow-hued Abbey Restaurant features glass
chandeliers, marble columns, and fresh flowers on white tablecloth clad tables.
Kayne’s Bar and Bistro is a more relaxed and casual space, with lots of exposed
brick walls and wooden furnishings complemented by patterned upholstered
chairs.
Location
Located along a main road lined with many hotels, a short walk to Killarney’s town center
The Dromhall Hotel is located on Muckross Road in the town
of Killarney, near the beautiful Killarney National Park and Killarney Lake
District. The property is surrounded by residential homes, hotels, and
guesthouses and is about a 10-minute walk into the town center and several
restaurants, bars, and shops. There are several sights nearby, including Ross
Castle, which is a four-minute drive from the hotel, the Killarney Racecourse
(two-minute drive or 14-minute walk), and St. Mary’s Cathedral (four-minute
drive). The bus station is a 13-minute walk into town and the train station is
situated right across the street from it.
Rooms
Tasteful, comfortable rooms with marble bathrooms; some with mountain views
Rooms at the Dromhall Hotel, much like all of the interiors
throughout the hotel, are traditionally decorated, with antique-style
furnishings and details that include damask patterned olive hued bedspreads and
pale yellow wallpaper. The look may strike some as slightly dated rather than elegant, however (the wall-to-wall carpeting does bring the look down a notch). All rooms have flat-screen satellite TVs, telephones, work desks, tea
and coffee-making facilities, and free Wi-Fi, though lack minibars or
mini-fridges. Marble bathrooms have shower/tub combos and a selection of
toiletries. Family rooms are also available and sleep up to four, as well as a
decadent Bridal Suite decorated in luxurious cream and gold hues. Many rooms
have lovely mountain views, though some have lackluster views over the parking
lot. Some guests also complain about noise due to thin walls.

setting. Room service is available.Guests at Dromhall Hotel have access to a Leisure Club with an
indoor heated pool, sauna, and steam room as well as a relaxing full-service
spa, though they are not located on the property, but in the adjacent Randles
Court Hotel Killarney. The hotel also has conference and event facilities and
is often host to weddings. Computers are available for guests’ use in the lobby
and lounge. Freebies include parking and Wi-Fi throughout the hotel.
