Santa Maria Suites, with 35 spacious suites with full-size kitchens, is an upscale, four-pearl property in the southernmost part of historic Key West. Guests get lots of freebies here -- such as an afternoon wine hour with snacks, poolside smoothies and ice-cream bars, and bottled water and fresh muffin at turndown -- but a mandatory resort fee is added to the bill. Santa Maria Suites is about a block from the beach and walking distance to the south end of Duval Street. This property, with its condo-style suites, can offer good value to families, couples, and groups of friends traveling together. Travelers who want to be directly on the beach could consider Sunset Key Cottages, which has a gorgeous beach and a fine-dining restaurant with unobstructed views, but much higher rates.
Scene
Upscale suite-style property that's perfect for vacationing families and groups
The Santa Maria Suites is located in the southernmost section of Key West’s historic downtown. While it’s not directly on the beach, it’s less than a block a way from the Atlantic Ocean and is tucked into a quiet and lushly landscaped neighborhood. The exterior facade is white and modern; a circular outdoor patio area leads to the lobby, which has a distinct circle motif, with a crescent-shaped check-in desk, curved walls, and a long curved couch. The on-site Japanese restaurant has a modern look as well, with cluster of white globe pendant lights hanging from the ceiling and sleek, streamlined furnishings in the waiting area. Behind the sushi bar, there’s a pearl-colored wall with textured, wave-shaped grooves. The upscale suites have a layout similar to an apartment or condo -- with full kitchens, two bedrooms, and two bathrooms, they're perfect for families and groups.
Location
Located one block from the ocean and Duval Street
Nestled into a quiet section of Key West amid lush, tropical landscaping, the Santa Maria Suites is less than one block from the ocean and two blocks from the southernmost point of the United States. The Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservatory is a block away, on the south end of Duval Street, where a long stretch of restaurants, boutiques, and bars begin. Louie’s Backyard, a great fine-dining restaurant with panoramic water views from the upper deck, is two blocks away.
Rooms
Modern two-bedroom suites with balconies and home-like conveniences
The Santa Maria's 35 one- and two-floor suites vary in size, but all have full kitchens, two bedrooms, and two bathrooms. Kitchens feature marble countertops and bar-style seating, as well as refrigerators, Jenn-Air ovens with induction stove-tops, utensils, wine coolers, microwaves, coffeemakers, toasters, and dishwashers. Bedrooms and living rooms have cream-colored marble floors and simple, beach-chic decor. All suites have washers and dryers, three 48-inch flat-screen TVs, iHomes, and private patios or terraces (bi-level suites have glass balconies that overlook the curvy pools). Bathrooms have spacious walk-in showers with multi-colored tiles, two showerheads, and Salvatore Ferragamo Tuscan Soul toiletries. The hotel provides a nightly turndown service with Dove chocolate, ice cream, bottled water, and fresh muffins.
Features
Two outdoor pools with lots of freebies, such as smoothies, wine, and ice cream
While it’s not located directly on the ocean, Santa Maria Suites is within walking distance to a beach, where there’s an attendant, towels, and chairs. Free fresh fruit, smoothies, and ice-cream bars are served at the two side-by-side outdoor pools on the property. There's also a free happy hour by the pool, with wine, beer, cakes, cheese, crackers, chips, and salsa. Guests rave about the Japanese restaurant on-site, which is known for it’s sushi, tempura, and teriyaki dishes. There is free Wi-Fi and free parking, as well as free bottled water, muffins, chocolate, ice cream, cookies, and fruit. The gym is tiny and only has a handful of cardio machines, so guests may want to skip it and opt for an outdoor workout. The staff will help arrange snorkeling, fishing, sightseeing, and boating trips.
