A few miles north of the historic district, near the airport
Located on the "far side" of the island -- about three miles north of the Key West Historic District -- this hotel offers an off-the-beaten path option for vacationers. Since this is an island, nothing is hours away; however, the Hampton Inn is pretty much on the opposite side of where the rest of the area hotels are located. With the property just down the road from the airport, there are lovely oceanfront walking paths that are immediately accessible. Beaches are nearby as well, as it's about one mile west to Smathers -- a popular public beach.
Expect noise from planes passing overhead thanks to close airport proximity. (Fortunately there doesn't seem to be much overhead traffic after 9 p.m.) For some, this slightly removed location is a bonus -- there are no late-night downtown revelers to contend with -- but for others this is an inconvenience since reaching area attractions requires travel and it's difficult to find public transportation in the evenings.
