Bottom Line

Hotel Morales Historical & Colonial Downtown Core is a three-and-a-half-pearl property with an elegant 19th century design. It sits in the middle of downtown Guadalajara, an eight-minute walk from Guadalajara Cathedral. The 98 rooms are classy and come with flat-screen TVs and coffeemakers, but lack minibars. Rooms facing the street are partial to noise. A heated rooftop pool, restaurant, Mexican and American breakfast options, and small gym round out the amenities. For something more modern and a bit cheaper, travelers could consider Perla Central Hotel which is in the same area.

Scene

Historic 19th-century hotel with beautiful courtyards and a sophisticated decor

Hotel Morales Historical & Colonial Downtown Core dates to 1888 when it was first built as a home. It was later bought by the Morales family and turned into a hotel that welcomed such Mexican stars as Pedro Infante, Jorge Negrete, and Maria Felix. The 19th century Neo-colonial building underwent a major renovation in 2005 and today exudes elegance with a mix of contemporary and antique furnishings. The hotel is mostly characterized by a variety of beautiful courtyards, some of which have white and blue tiling and water fountains. Others have yellow walls, plenty of seating, and small ponds. Guests can also relax in a lounge with a pool table, historic black and white photography on display, and a bookshelf lined with books. The rooftop terrace has great views and lovely gardens. Overall, the hotel is sophisticated and elegant and attracts mainly couples who enjoy the romantic historical design and central location.

Location

Located in downtown Guadalajara, an eight-minute walk from Guadalajara Cathedral

Hotel Morales has a prime location in the heart of Guadalajara at just an eight-minute walk from Guadalajara Cathedral. The surrounding streets are packed with restaurants and shops. A tram stop is just a five-minute walk away. Nearby attractions include the Rotunda of the Illustrious People of Jalisco (eight-minute walk), Mercado Libertad (13-minute walk), and the Museum of the Arts of Guadalajara (18-minute walk). It takes about 30 minutes by car to reach the Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla International Airport.

Rooms

Elegant rooms with flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, and coffeemakers

The rooms at Hotel Morales Historical & Colonial Downtown Core exhibit the building’s historic character through different elements like arched doorways, wooden floors, high ceilings, and antique furniture. The design among the rooms vary, but the overall look is elegant and classy with primary tones of cream and beige and some hints of red or turquoise in fabric accents or furniture. The headboards are particularly exquisite: some have carved engravings in dark wood and others are padded. Amenities here include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, bottled water, and coffeemakers, however, only one bag of coffee is provided per room during a stay. Some rooms have balconies and street views, and rooms facing the street may be noisier than others. Imperial Suites offer mini-fridges. Bathrooms are lovely, but vary in design as some have vessel sinks and others have marble countertops. Showers are featured in most rooms, as are Almond & Olive toiletries and hairdryers. Imperial Suites have separate showers and jetted tubs. Note that street-facing rooms are prone to some noise.
