The two-and-a-half-pearl Elk Country Inn offers a peaceful setting and reasonable rates, plus it's within walking distance of historic Jackson Hole Town Center. The rustic, limited-service property offers 88 traditional hotel rooms and stand-alone cabins that are clean, comfortable, and well-equipped with microwaves, mini-fridges, coffeemakers, and free Wi-Fi. Cabins also include sleeper sofas, and loft-style hotel rooms can accommodate up to six. The property doesn’t have a restaurant or breakfast, but amenities include a small fitness center, laundry room, whirlpool, and free shuttle to the ski slopes in winter. Rates are generally lower than staying downtown, and they're competitive with cabins at the nearby Cowboy Village, which features an indoor pool.
Scene
Quiet, rustic inn with a main hotel building and stand-alone cabins
The rustic cabins and spacious rooms at Elk Country Inn attract lots of families, but couples frequent this quiet hotel as well. It’s an expansive property with a curious history, as it was once a hotel in Worland, Wyoming, and transported via truck to its current location. The charming building is situated on a grassy lawn with picnic tables, grills, and a swing set that make it a popular place for meals in warm weather. A stone fireplace is the focal point of the small lobby, which has dark wood beam ceilings and pleasant Western decor. Guests often take advantage of the free coffee and fruit, and excellent cookies are provided in the afternoon. They're also commonly seen relaxing on their cabin porches later in the day.
Location
In a quiet spot within walking distance of historic Town Square
The Inn is located in a quiet spot off U.S. Highway 191, which runs directly into Jackson Hole’s historic Town Square, a nine-minute walk or two-minute drive. A popular barbecue restaurant is next door (it also serves breakfast), and a Mexican restaurant and Wendy’s are across the street. Several other restaurants are a short walk away, including Snake River Brewing. It’s a five-minute drive to the slopes at Snow King Resort and the National Elk Refuge, and 20 minutes by car to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort at Teton Village. Jackson Hole Airport is a 15-minute drive, and Craig Thomas Visitor Center (a starting point for Grand Teton National Park) is 22 minutes away. Yellowstone National Park is approximately 75 minutes by car.
Rooms
Rustic details and well-equipped with microwaves, mini-fridges, and coffeemakers
This Inn has a nice selection of clean and comfortable stand-alone cabins and traditional hotel rooms, including Three Queen Lofts that have balconies and semi-private loft areas. The other standard (Settler’s) hotel rooms contain two queen beds, with pleasant-looking rustic wood furniture and brown and gold walls that match bedspreads. Pattered carpeting in handsome copper and black adds some visual interest. At 340 square feet, they offer ample space, with plenty of room for small tables with chairs. Standard amenities include mini-fridges, microwaves, flat-screen TVs, safes, coffeemakers, and free Wi-Fi. The larger Three Queen Lofts add wet bars and second TVs in the loft bedrooms. The two-queen Colter Cabins have the same carpet but they feature more charming, outdoorsy decor, like pine wood walls and ceilings. Bedrooms are a bit tight, but the comfortable living rooms have sleeper sofas and kitchenettes with cooktops, wet bars, small dining tables, and the same amenities as the hotel rooms. Living rooms and bedrooms have their own flat-screen TVs, and Cabins include covered porches with picnic tables and chairs. Bathrooms in main building rooms have tan granite vanities both inside and directly outside, providing extra convenience for families, and all come with shower/tub combos, magnifying mirrors, hairdryers, and toiletries. About half of the units offer views of Snow King Mountain, and others overlook the grounds.

This limited-service property doesn’t have a restaurant, bar, or breakfast, but there's free coffee, fruit-infused water, cookies, and fruit in the lobby. Vending machines also are on-site. There's an indoor whirlpool in an enclosed rustic wooden space with windows, which is a bit dated but the whirlpool is spacious. The fitness center, on the other hand, is small, but it does have free weights as well as a Precor treadmill, elliptical, and stationary bicycle. Other amenities include a lobby computer, guest laundry room with two washer/dryers, and valet laundry service, and outside there's a large grassy area with several picnic tables, grills, and a swing set. Freebies include a winter shuttle to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, on-site parking, and Wi-Fi throughout, and pets stay free, but they must not be left unattended. Travelers with limited mobility should be aware that the hotel doesn't have an elevator.
