Bottom Line

The 28-room Hotel de Paris Sanremo is an upscale property set in a classical 19th century building that's been tastefully restored. Rooms are as elegant as the common areas of the building, with refined decor in addition to modern conveniences such as air-conditioning and flat-screen TVs. They also offer stunning views of the sea and the Russian church. The location is convenient and central, with all of the main sights and a gorgeous private beach within easy walking distance (though there's a fee to access the beach). The polished restaurant on-site is one of the best in San
Remo, offering traditional Italian and French cuisine. There’s also a bar, spa, and fitness center on-site. Travelers looking for a more predictable property could try the four-pearl BEST WESTERN Hotel Nazionale.

Scene

Traditional, elegant, upscale hotel in the heart of San Remo

The Hotel de Paris Sanremo is set in a six-story building with an elegant exterior of ivory-colored walls, tall windows, and decorative wrought ironwork. Designed by
Pietro Agosti, pioneering engineer and one-time mayor of San Remo, the building
is a local landmark dating back to 1897. Its elegant feel continues inside; the lobby has pretty
white Austrian blinds hanging at the windows, formal sofas and armchairs, and
coffee tables with an array of newspapers and magazines. Traditional oil
paintings and gold-framed mirrors hang on the wall, as well as the modern
addition of a large flat-screen TV. There are high ceilings with ornate
cornices throughout the property, thanks to its heritage from the Belle Epoque
era. Gray and white marble floors throughout the public areas add to the
refined atmosphere. Some business travelers stay here but most guests are
tourists on vacation -- mainly couples but also some families.

Location

Centrally placed between the town’s two famous landmarks

The hotel overlooks the main street of San Remo, Corso Imperatrice, and
is just 1,600 feet (500 meters) from the beach. It’s a perfect spot for visitors to the town
as there are beautiful sea views and many attractions are a short walk away.
The hotel is nestled between the two famous structures in San Remo -- the historic
casino and the beautiful Russian Orthodox Church of Christ the Saviour. In
around eight minutes, it’s possible to walk to the Palazzo Borea d'Olmo -- a
stunning example of Baroque architecture. The walk leads through pretty streets
and past many high-end boutiques and authentic Italian cafes and restaurants. Just behind the hotel sits a former railway track that's been converted into a cycleway, which stretches for over 12 and a half miles (20 kilometers) along the coastline. Bikes are available for rent near the property. Nice Cote
d'Azur Airport is around a 50-minute drive from the hotel.

Rooms

Sophisticated, stylish rooms with fabulous views

The 28 rooms at the Hotel De Paris are decorated in soft pastel
colors such as pink, blue, and green with delicate gold details on the furniture
and wooden flooring. Large windows let in lots of natural light. Most rooms have impressive sea views, while others overlook the
breathtaking Russian church. The rooms have air-conditioning, 42-inch flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, safes, and minibars. Room sizes vary, but most are
spacious. Bathroom sizes vary too; some have a shower/tub combo while
others are smaller and just have a shower stall but no tub. All the bathrooms
are decorated in a simple, elegant, and modern style with white walls and cream
tiles. A hairdryer, robe, and slippers are provided, as are designer
toiletries.

Features

Excellent restaurant on-site, plus a spa and fitness center

Guests of the hotel can use a private beach, which is just 1,600 feet (500 meters) away. There's a daily fee for this, but comfortable sun loungers and
parasols are provided. While there’s no pool at the hotel, it does have a small
spa, which has a hot tub, sauna, and a fitness center with treadmills and
exercise bikes. There’s a pretty outdoor courtyard with stylish garden
furniture and plenty of parasols available on hot days. A mix of Italian and
French cuisine is served at the hotel's Restaurant De Paris. The food is
reasonably priced, and the restaurant has a well-deserved reputation as one of
the best in San Remo. As well as a varied menu, an extensive wine list is
offered. There’s also a stylish bar for evening drinks and room service is
available. A free breakfast is provided, although some previous guests have
commented that there’s a poor variety of food on offer. Wi-Fi is free
throughout the hotel -- although the signal is much stronger in the lobby than
in the rooms. On the mezzanine floor, there’s also a reading room,
meeting room, and event space.
