Hotel can be hard to find
The two-pearl Yazar Hotel is a budget-friendly option
for couples and families looking to be within walking distance of Istanbul’s
most historic and popular attractions. Its 20 turquoise-colored rooms include flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, air-conditioning, and safes. But some complaints have been made concerning mold or moldy smells and bothersome noise from the street and other rooms. The hotel has a few features such as a free breakfast
buffet, a rooftop terrace, and free Wi-Fi. It
may be worth checking the prices at the Sultanahmet Hotel, which also has a good
location near attractions.
Scene
A hotel with playful turquoise decor that caters to families and couples
Opened in 2013, the Yazar Hotel is a budget-friendly
option with fun decor. A turquoise, gold, and white color scheme is evident
in tufted turquoise or gold chairs in the lobby and in the attached breakfast
room. The latter is bright and airy thanks to wall-to-wall windows. The
best decorative feature is the large spiral staircase that leads
from the lobby to the top floor. The handrails are painted turquoise and
bouquets of faux red flowers are spaced intermittently along the rail. Note
that there is an elevator, though it doesn’t reach the rooftop terrace or the Penthouse Rooms. Most guests are
families and couples on vacation.
Location
Within walking distance of most of Istanbul's popular attractions
The hotel has an ideal location for those looking to
explore the historic and popular attractions of Istanbul on foot, though some guests have complained that locating the Yazar itself can be hard. Hagia
Sophia and the Basilica Cistern are around a 10-minute
walk away, while the Topkapi Palace is a 14-minute walk. Sultanahmet Mosque -- also
known as the Blue Mosque -- is a 16-minute walk away, and the enormous Grand Bazaar is a 12-minute walk. To explore other parts of
the city, guests can hop on the Gulhane tram stop eight minutes away, while the
Sirkeci train station is an 11-minute walk. There are some restaurants within a
five- to 10-minute walk from the hotel, including lots of Turkish places and a Domino’s
Pizza. Istanbul Ataturk International Airport requires a 32-minute car
ride to reach.
Rooms
Rooms include flat-screen TVs, safes, mini-fridges, and free bottled water
The Yazar's rooms have a white and celeste-blue color scheme paired with white walls and pale wooden floors. The dominant celeste-blue hue pops up in bedding, striped accent walls, and patterned drum lampshades. Rooms
include one to three beds, and there are Family Rooms to accommodate larger groups. All rooms include flat-screen TVs, safes, electric kettles, mini-fridges with free bottled water, and air-conditioning. The
white-tiled bathrooms aren’t very large but include walk-in rainfall showers and large, sleek
turquoise bowl sinks. Heated towel racks and hairdryers give a little touch of luxury. However, some complaints have been made about mold or moldy smells in the bathrooms. And some guests have complained of noises from the street and other rooms.
Features
Free breakfast buffet, attractive roof terrace, and free Wi-Fi
Yazar Hotel provides a free Turkish and international breakfast buffet in its breakfast room or on the hotel’s roof terrace, which has two large wooden tables and views of Istanbul skimming over neighboring roofs and stretching to the waterfront just beyond. However, there's no full restaurant offering other meals. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel. Those with cars should note
that there isn’t on-site parking, and it may be difficult to
find nearby parking.
