Crown Airport Hotel

While the ivy-laden exterior is unassuming, the LA Adventurer promotes an upbeat and loud party scene throughout the hotel. Recessed lighting covers the lobby, with red couches and armchairs providing seating; guests -- typically a younger crowd -- gather here each night for happy hour with free Champagne, cookies, coffee, and cake. Funky blue carpet, wood chairs, and lots of fake plants adorn the American Bar and Grill restaurant, while the wood bar area is filled with neon signs and bentwood barstools. Next to the bar is the Hurricane Piano Lounge with a wall of mirrors and a jukebox, chandelier, and large wooden piano. Adjacent to the pool is the Adventurer Tiki Bar, decorated in neon signs, orange walls, and a grass-roof Tiki bar area. Pool tables and flat-screen TVs provide entertainment, while colorful chairs offer seating. Rentable lockers are available outside in an area with another chandelier and blue carpeting. Most of the common areas are crowded all day long, though, and the entrance sign is old with scratched-off paint. The lobby has stained and tired carpet, while the on-site restaurants have worn furniture. Note: There's no elevator available at this motel-style property, only stairs.

The LA Adventurer Hotel Los Angeles LAX is in a seedy area with liquor stores, gas stations, and small shopping centers surrounding it. The Hollywood Park Casino is a 10-minute walk, while other attractions require a car. The airport is under 10 minutes' drive from the hotel, while Santa Monica Pier, Manhattan Beach, the University of Southern California, and the Staples Center are about a 20-minute drive, depending on traffic. Venice Beach, Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, and the Los Angeles Convention Center are also a 20-minute drive from the hotel. There is free shuttle service to and from the airport. 

Several different room options are available, including dorm-style rooms with up to 20 beds, Cottages, and Suites. Rooms are all fairly basic, with light wood furniture, and floral bedspreads and wispy curtains for color. Some rooms are carpeted, while others have wood floors. The white walls have mismatched artwork and flat-screen TVs. Each room also has free (spotty) Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, and a minibar with drinks. Separate Cottages have living rooms with blue carpeting and red couches, and small dining areas with linoleum floors. Private bathrooms in Suites and Cottages have gray tile walls and shower/tub combos with soap/shampoo dispensers. Room and bathroom cleanliness are issues mentioned by guests, and range from stained walls and carpeting to cracked sink caulking to general rust in the rooms. Worn bedding and furniture are common. Additionally, some rooms have loud traffic noise and a moldy smell. 

The pool area can be lovely or somewhat unappealing depending on the day or season, according to guests. The gray-stone deck is surrounded by palm trees, and there are white lounge chairs and neon-green desk chairs for seating. Guests can grab drinks at the poolside Adventurer Tiki Bar; snack and drink machines are available as well. The business center with three computers is also in the bar area. American cuisine is served for breakfast and dinner at the American Bar and Grill, while sandwiches, pizza, ice cream, and hot dogs are offered at the Hurricane Piano Lounge throughout the day. Coin-operated washers and dryers comprise the laundry facilities. Several free extras are offered, including a free continental breakfast with muffins, coffee, and tea. A free shuttle runs to the airport 24/7 and there is another free shuttle to Manhattan Beach. Free Wi-Fi runs throughout, and the free parking is in a gated outdoor area. However, the parking has limited spaces and is tightly packed, and there is room service, but it has limited hours.
