Wood Castle

Wood Castle is a basic budget hotel that attracts plenty of domestic travelers looking to be in West Delhi. It also draws lots of western tourists, in part due to its quiet location near the metro. The exterior could be confused for a residential apartment building, were it not for a small plaque bearing the hotel's name. This low-key vibe defines this small property, where even the interiors are a bit familial. There's a small living area with an elaborate wood-plush sofa that's a popular style in Delhi, a flat-screen TV, and a few tables and chairs where breakfast is served. Otherwise, public spaces are non-existent, and there's not much in the way of a social vibe. Those looking to mingle with fellow budget travelers on the road may want to consider Paharganj area hotels instead.

Wood Castle is located in the Karol Bagh neighborhood of West Delhi, on a quiet street within walking distance of shops and restaurants. It's an eight-minute walk to Karol Bagh Metro Station and travelers can reach Central Delhi's Connaught Place in around 20 minutes. New Delhi Railway Station takes 15 minutes to reach by car (without traffic) or 25 minutes by metro. Old Delhi -- which is home to amazing markets, people watching, and a riot of colors and sights like the Red Fort -- is a half hour away by road. Factor in about 25 minutes by car to India Gate or 35 to 40 minutes for Humayun's Tomb. South Delhi attractions such as the Lotus Temple and the Qutub Minar can take 35 to 40 minutes or longer to reach depending on traffic. The Indira Gandhi International Airport is about 30 minutes away by car, without traffic, though expect that number to go higher on any given day. 

The 12 rooms at Wood Castle are small but well maintained, with homey decor that has a modern, if not entirely cohesive, aesthetic. As suggested by the hotel's name, wood and wood paneling figure largely, contributing to the cozy vibe. Other details include marble floors, patterned traditional throw rugs, and loudly patterned curtains. Furniture comes in mix of dark-wood and light-wood finishes, some of which has ornate silhouettes, though there isn't much in the way of seating -- these rooms are quite compact. Rooms have ceiling fans and individual air-conditioning units, plus small flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, free Wi-Fi, and safes. Bathrooms are of the wet room variety, with shower spaces that open to the rest of the bathroom, meaning the whole space gets wet when one is rinsing off. Showers have both handheld and rainfall showerheads. The rooms are generally quiet thanks to the hotel's location on a side street.

Wood Castle has limited features, not surprising given its size and budget category. There's a computer station in the lobby and free hotel-wide Wi-Fi for guests. Breakfast, including hot North Indian items, is included in room rates, but there's no proper restaurant for lunch and dinner.
