Shangri-La Hotel Bengaluru is a luxury business hotel located in the heart of Bengaluru, a five-minute drive from Cubbon Park. The 397 rooms and suites feature a mix of classic and contemporary decor -- including swish marble bathrooms -- and many have sweeping city views. Amenities are excellent, from the large outdoor pool with poolside bar service to the Horizon executive lounge where guests in club rooms get free evening cocktails. However, it's the dining that really sets this property apart from its neighbors, with a large selection of restaurants serving Chinese, Indian, Japanese, and international cuisine. Overall, there's not much to fault this property for, though a few past guests have mentioned maintenance issues in the rooms. Travelers shopping around may want to also consider the ITC Gardenia, which has a bigger pool and is a little closer to Cubbon Park.

This Shangri-La is housed in an imposing glass-and-steel building that exudes the kind of corporate vibe often associated with office buildings. Inside, the lobby feels considerably warmer, thanks to cozy sofas and chairs and wall-to-wall plush beige carpeting with an earthy purple design. A gold-leaf pattern accent wall and a golden oval light fixtures suspended from high ceilings gives the space an ornate and sophisticated look. This hotel attracts a lot of business travelers -- both from India and abroad -- including many from China and other parts of East Asia who are loyal to the Hong Kong-based Shangri-La brand.

This Shangri-La is located in the heart of Bengaluru (AKA Bangalore). It's about a 15-minute walk south of Bengaluru Palace and a few minutes down the road from the National Gallery of Modern Art. The Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium is a 13-minute walk form the hotel, while getting to verdant Cubbon Park takes over 20 minutes on foot. Bengaluru City Junction Railway Station is about a 10-minute drive from the hotel. Getting to Kempegowda International Airport takes at least 40 minutes by car, and longer during peak traffic times.

Decor is consistent across all categories, with a mix of modern, business-like furnishings (think light-wood dressers and desks paired with ergonomic chairs). Classical decor elements feature candelabra-style lamp fixtures and Arabesque-style geometric prints on neutral-hued bedspreads and plush carpets. Standard amenities include flat-screen TVs, minibars, and coffee- and tea-making facilities. Bathrooms are clad in marble, and come with magnifying mirrors and large walk-in rainfall showers -- some units also have bathtubs. About a quarter of the rooms here fall into the entry-level Deluxe City View Category and measure 41 square meters (440 square feet) with views of the city from lower floors. Grand Bangalore View Rooms are a tad larger, at 44 square meters/473 square feet, but otherwise have similar amenities. The Panorama View Rooms clock in at 49 square meters (526 square feet). The hotel also offers a few types of Horizon Club Rooms with similar decor and features, plus added touches for business travelers (like speakers in the bathrooms and access to the executive Horizon Club). One of the property's strongest features is its numerous bars and restaurants, including the lobby-level b Cafe, which serves international and Indian cuisine along with an extensive breakfast buffet. There's also an excellent Chinese restaurant -- Shang Palace -- open for lunch and dinner, with private dining available. Other options include Indian food at Ssafron, Japanese cuisine at Yataii, and Mediterranean fare at Caprese. Hype and the Pool Deck offer lighter meals and cocktails. There's also a deli in the lobby, along with a lobby bar that seats 60. Room service is available 24/7.Wellness amenities include a 24-hour fitness center with all sorts of high-end TechnoGym cardio and weight-training machines, along with sauna and steam rooms. There's also a spa -- CHI -- for massages and treatments. The outdoor pool is gorgeous, with lounge chairs right in the pool (but not submerged) along with views out over the city from an infinity edge. The Horizon Club features all sorts of extras aimed at business travelers, including a club lounge, late checkout, free evening cocktails and all-day snacks; and a free breakfast served in the club lounge or at b Cafe. There's also a business center with secretarial services on request and event spaces for up to 300 people. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel and is reportedly fast and reliable. Note that there's not much for kids on offer here, but babysitting services and discounted children's meal plans are available.
