Bottom Line

The mid-range Seashell Beach Suites is an all-suites property just off Candolim's main road, a two-minute walk to the beach. Its 16 one- and two-bedroom Suites have living spaces, mini-fridges, kettles, and furnished balconies, either overlooking the garden or rectangular pool. The pool is small but well-maintained, and lined by sunbeds and dining furniture. The open-air eatery serves Indian, Chinese, and international fare all day, plus room service and a bar are available. The hotel lacks kids' facilities and a spa, and the gym is tiny and worn. On the plus side, the gated complex feels like a retreat from the numerous bustling bars and restaurants nearby. Families may want to consider the Country Inn & Suites By Carlson, which has more for kids and a spa.

Scene

Small property with suites and simple outdoor facilities

Just off Candolim's main road, Seashell Beach Suites is a small property with 16 suites spread across two-story buildings. Aside from a pleasant outdoor pool, there's not a lot to keep guests occupied on-site. However, most visitors are drawn to the hotel for its retreat-like vibe that's in stark contrast to the nearby bustling main street and beach that are lined with bars. Grounds are well-manicured with checkered stone paths dividing up lush green lawns and potted flowers. Indo-Portuguese architecture is on display with the cream balusters and red tiled roofs, while two sets of white-painted stone lions make a statement. Inside the lobby, a few beige sofas sit across from the reception desk, and the open-air restaurant has a similarly simple look that's dressed up with crosshatch chairs and a vaulted ceiling with exposed wood beams. Guests are primarily families, though some groups of friends and couples also stay here. Unfortunately, compared to similar area properties, rates here are pricey.

Location

Two-minute stroll from the beach and just off Candolim's main road

The hotel's gated complex setting just off the main road means guests get the best of both worlds -- a quiet setting still with everything close by. A two-minute walk down a public dirt path takes visitors right onto the beach, but note that it's not lit at night. The main street has endless eateries, including the famous Fisherman's Cove and Lobster Pot, plus dozens of bars and a supermarket. many dining and drinking options also line the beach. Taxis are plentiful, although tourists often opt for motorbike or scooter rentals, which the hotel can organize. Popular for water sports, Calangute Beach is a 15-minute drive and the lively night markets of Baga and Anjuna Beach are both within a 30-minute drive. Miramar Beach is just five minutes father and for something nearby, Shanta Durga Temple is an eight-minute walk and the Portuguese Aguada Fort is a quick 12-minute drive. Also known as Dabolim, Goa International Airport is just under an hour's drive away.

Rooms

Spacious suites with balconies and living spaces

The hotel has just 16 rooms, divided into 74-square-meter (797-square-foot) One-Bedroom Suites and 102-square-meter (1098-square-foot) Two-Bedroom Suites. Like the rest of the property, the design is simple and neutral-toned, consisting of beige tile floors, simple wood furniture with gray-granite tops, light-brown drapes with fleur de lis motifs, and limited artwork. The overall look is a bit bland, but everything is clean. All have separate living rooms with couches and flat-screen TVs, and dining tables are set on the furnished balconies overlooking either the pool or gardens. Additional amenities consist of air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, safes, kettles for tea- and coffee-making, and mini-fridges. Modern bathrooms have travertine tiles and large walk-in showers, plus basic toiletries, magnifying mirrors, and hairdryers. Rooms can be fitted with cribs.

Features

Outdoor pool, all-day restaurant with room service, and Wi-Fi

Despite the high number of families that come here, kid-centric amenities are limited. There's no kiddy pool specifically, but an outdoor pool is pleasant and surrounded by sunbeds and dining sets. An open-air restaurant seres buffet breakfasts and a la carte lunches and dinners. It lacks a proper bar, although alcoholic beverages are served all day. Traditional Goan specialties are popular, and Chinese and international fare is also offered. The restaurant can have an abandoned feel in the evening, with guests typically choosing to dine outside the property. Room service is available. There's no spa, and the tiny fitness center has worn equipment. Nearby parking is free and Wi-Fi is free throughout. Pets are not permitted.
