The three-and-a-half-pearl Radisson Udaipur -- not to be confused with the Radisson Blu Udaipur Palace Resort & Spa -- is a small business hotel in the city’s Ashok Nagar business and entertainment district. It’s linked to the Lake City Mall. With a rooftop pool, spa, and fitness center, the hotel has more features than expected, given its 56 rooms. However, guests should note that there are plans for expansion. Rooms and suites are light and modern, with floor-to-ceiling windows and amenities like 40-inch TVs and free Wi-Fi. This upper-middle-range hotel is geared toward business travelers, and there are no facilities for families. Travelers with kids should check out The Ananta Udaipur on the quiet outskirts of the city, which has lots of fun features and lovely views at similar rates.
Scene
A small and modern business hotel with modern interiors
First impressions of the Radisson Udaipur aren’t necessarily pretty; the hotel sits above the Lake City Mall, which isn't the most characterful setting in all of Udaipur. However, on entering the lobby, the hotel makes a surprisingly light and modern first impression, with a soothing neutral palette. Contemporary architecture combines with abstract artwork gives off the familiar vibe of a business hotel, though there are some areas where the decor is bolder -- even a little tacky -- like at the Gold Spa and F3 Lounge. There’s a comfortable and uncrowded vibe, although guests should note that the hotel has plans for expansion. Other downsides include hot and stuffy hallways due to climate-control issues. The hotel is designed with business travelers in mind and while it surprisingly attracts a lot of families, there are no dedicated features for children or family rooms.
Location
Above the Lake City Mall in Ashok Nagar, 15-minute drive from tourist sights
The Radisson Udaipur is linked to the Lake City Mall in the newly developed business and entertainment area of Ashok Nagar. The immediate area around the hotel is largely residential, with houses, local shops -- and an unfortunately polluted stream. There are plenty of dining options within walking distance, and the mall -- with its fast-food chains -- is popular with locals on weekends. This location is mostly convenient for business travelers as it's a bit far from the main tourist sights. It’s a 15-minute drive to most of the city's top attractions, like the City Palace, Jagdish Temple, Bagore Ki Haveli Museum, Lake Pichola, and Lake Fateh Sagar. The train station is about a 10-minute drive away and Udaipur's airport can be reached in around 30 minutes. Airport pick-ups and drop-offs can be arranged for a fee, and taxis are readily available outside the hotel.
Rooms
Large and light rooms with modern amenities like large flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi
Large rooms are modern and decorated with neutral hues like cream and brown, which is accented by wooden floors, glass work desks, and cozy seating corners. Floor-to-ceiling windows let in plenty of light and there’s a warm feel thanks to some carefully placed artwork and intricate details -- like tree motifs on the mirrors. Amenities include coffee- and tea-making facilities, minibars, 40-inch flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, and free Wi-Fi. Marble bathrooms are glass box-style, with blinds that can be drawn for privacy. Most rooms have large walk-in showers. Vanity mirrors, hairdryers, and basic toiletries are provided. Most of the rooms here are Superior Rooms. These are 440 square feet (40 square meters) and have the choice of king or twin beds. Upgraded rooms consist of Business Class Rooms at 540 square feet (50 square meters) -- which feature separate tubs and showers -- and Executive Suites that are a generous 980 square feet (90 square meters) and include living rooms. Rooms on higher floors have views over the neighborhood to the hills beyond; other rooms unfortunately look out over a drainage ditch.
Features
A rooftop pool, spa, and fitness center go beyond the features expected of a compact business hotel
The Radisson Udaipur has plentiful features given its small size -- although guests should note that it has plans for expansion. Seasons Cafe opens for breakfast (which is included in the rates), lunch, and dinner. It serves up international dishes including Indian, Italian, and Mexican alongside daily themed cuisine. The F3 Lounge is a decent spot for sharing plates and lighter bites washed down with shots and cocktails from the extensive drink menu. Room service is available around the clock. Hotel guests also have easy access to Moti Mahal, a specialty Indian restaurant located inside the mall. To unwind, guests can head up to the rooftop pool -- although don’t expect to admire the scenery as you take a dip; high walls block out any view of the surrounding area. There’s also a spa with treatment rooms and a fitness center with cardio equipment and free weights. Features geared toward business travelers include a business center with meeting rooms and ballrooms for events. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. There’s plenty of on-site parking on a dusty parking lot, and airport pick-ups and drop-offs can be arranged for a fee.
