While this upscale Hyatt is under a 15-minute drive from the terminals at Chhatrapati Shivaji, its sleek, contemporary interiors place it a cut above the average airport hotel. With no tourist sites within walking distance, and downtown Mumbai almost an hour's drive away, the hotel mostly serves business travelers wanting easy access to the airport and the nearby commercial complexes. However, even vacationing guests love the modern comforts of the 401 rooms, which have minibars, marble bathrooms, pool views, and free Wi-Fi. Several restaurants serve international fare, and there's a 24-hour gym, gorgeous pool, small spa, and six business/event rooms. Closer to Mumbai's city center, The Four Seasons Hotel Mumbai has similar features and only a slightly higher price tag.
Scene
Contemporary interiors give this chain hotel a ritzy and refined vibe
Gleaming granite floors and pillars, plush leather seating in the reception, and superbly maintained lawns immediately identify this Hyatt as among Mumbai’s swankiest hotels. The widespread use of slate grays and other muted tones creates a sophisticated air about the spaces, while modern art prints and sculptures, touches of foliage, and massive glass windows in the bright lobby add both freshness and character, making it a popular mingling area. Clearly targeted at cosmopolitan jetsetters, the property is a premier choice for guests on business, though its many top-notch leisure facilities attract tourists, too.
Location
Quick drive to airport and business areas, but no tourist sites within walking distance
The Hyatt Regency Mumbai is under a 15-minute drive from Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport and within 15 minutes by car to the commercial complexes and malls of Andheri and Bandra. The hotel does arrange cars to the airport for extra fees. There isn’t much within walking distance of the property, and the suburban surroundings are a good 45-minute drive from the city center when traffic cooperates. Popular tourist areas are best reached by taxi; the Gateway of India, Marine Drive, and Elephanta Caves are all hour-long drives away. It takes 35 to 40 minutes by car to reach The Haji Ali Dargah Mosque and the Bollywood set tours at Film City.
Rooms
Spacious and bright, with sleek furnishings, modern amenities, and pleasant views
Large, spotless rooms decorated in neutral tones echo the hotel's modern and classy style, with teakwood floors, leather headboards, and glass-topped bedside tables and work desks. Huge mirrors and windows make the spaces feel even bigger, while large beds and soft armchairs add a cozy layer of comfort. Standard Rooms have decent city views, but more expensive rooms look out onto even better scenes of the pool and immaculately groomed grounds. Despite the proximity to the airport, rooms are insulated from plane noise. Cribs are available on request, and two accessible rooms are available. Standard Rooms include air-conditioning, safes, iPod docking stations, 42-inch LCD TVs, flashlights, and several power outlets. Coffee-and-tea-making facilities, minibars, free bottled water, and 24-hour room service are also available. Shoeshine kits and free newspapers are provided. Standard Wi-Fi is free, while fees apply for a faster connection. Suite-level rooms are not only larger, but come with extras like umbrellas, ironing equipment, and Krups coffeemakers. Elegant bathrooms are outfitted with granite walls and sink counters, though only a partial wall divides the toilet and bathing area. Along with step-down walk-in showers with handheld and rainfall showerheads, separate marble tubs are a highlight. Hairdryers and Biotique toiletries are provided. Note that there is some visible wear and tear in the rooms and bathrooms, like stained marble.
Features
24-hour restaurant and gym, beautiful wellness amenities, and free Wi-Fi and parking
Features here are expansive and convenient, which is ideal since there isn't much to do in the immediate neighborhood. Wide-ranging cuisine can be enjoyed at the three restaurants on-site. STAX serves Italian favorites in an enormous room with funky lighting, art sculptures, and a winding staircase leading up to the STAX Bar, which includes a foosball table and a wine cellar. The aptly named Glasshouse offers international and Indian dishes in a beautiful, sunny room surrounded by pool-view windows. Entertaining culinary theatrics are often on display at the open show kitchens in both STAX and Glasshouse. Glasshouse, open 24 hours, also serves a buffet breakfast featuring everything from Indian cutlets to miso soup and waffles. Themed Sunday brunches are even bigger events. However, breakfast isn’t necessarily included with rates. The Bakery, a casual, lobby-level space, offers sandwiches and pastries. 24-hour room service is available. Regency Club members have access to the private lounge. Business facilities are top-notch, including a boardroom with leather swivel chairs and five more event rooms of varying sizes, all of which can be set up with audiovisual equipment. A giant Regency Ballroom accommodates conferences and weddings. The two-computer business center charges extra fees for internet usage. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel, with the option to pay for faster speeds. Most leisure amenities are also impressive. The lovely and large pool area, with lounge chairs and additional seating on an adjacent lawn, rarely gets crowded. The modern and clean Prana Spa offers massages and facials, and also includes a steam room, sauna, and whirlpool with individual shower areas and lockers. A beauty salon offers nail, hair, and makeup treatments. While the well-equipped, 24-hour gym is free to use, personal trainers come with extra fees, as do rentals of the tennis courts and squash rooms. Babysitting services and children’s menus at some of the restaurants make the hotel fairly kid-friendly. Parking is free.
