Bottom Line

The four-pearl Fortune Acron Regina is one of the few hotels in Candolim with solid business amenities (including conference rooms and faster-than-average Wi-Fi). All 102 of the elegant guest rooms are air-conditioned and many look out over the gorgeous central courtyard, a lush space with a sprawling centerpiece lagoon pool. Dining options are nothing to scoff at, with buffets at all three meals served at the main Orchid Restaurant, plus a poolside barbecue restaurant and a separate lounge. Room service plus full- and half-board packages are available. Overall, this hotel's amenities are hard to beat, but it's a 10-minute walk from the beach, which may spur travelers to look elsewhere, such as the sea-facing The O Hotel.

Scene

Upscale business and leisure hotel with Portuguese-colonial look and feel

Fortune Acron Regina is an upscale business and leisure hotel that opened its doors back in 2010. Rooms are housed in a large yellow building with red tile roofs that give it a Portuguese-colonial feel. A smaller blue-colored adjacent building hosts some of the offices (including a vacation property sales office run from the same property). The grounds are lush, with tons of tropical bushes and trees surrounding the main central courtyard, plus tropical grass bordering the pathways that meander through the property. The hotel gets a mix of business and leisure travelers, including corporate guests on incentive trips.

Location

On a quiet back street just off of the main road in Candolim, a 10-minute walk from the beach

This hotel is located on a quiet back road in Candolim, on the eastern side of the main road that runs through town, in a touristy area with lots of bars and restaurants. It's a 10-minute walk to the beach from here and a 10-minute drive to Aguada Fort to the south. Getting to Calangute takes about the same amount of time. Anjuna and the Goan capital city of Panaji are each a half-hour away by car, traffic permitting. The international airport in Vasco de Gama takes closer to an hour to reach.

Rooms

Pleasantly furnished rooms with colorful accents, plus suites with four-poster beds and huge bathrooms

Units at this hotel come in three categories: Deluxe, Luxury, and Suites -- there are also a few ground-floor alter-abled rooms for guests in wheelchairs or with compromised mobility. Entry-level Deluxe Rooms come with two twin beds or one queen bed and are similar to the Luxury Rooms in size, layout, and amenities. Expect flat-screen TVs with cable, kettles, and minibars. However, Luxury Rooms have nicer views (of the pool area) and come with safes and a few extra amenities in the bathroom, like dental kits, razors, slippers, and robes (the latter on request). Room decor includes polished wooden floors, medium-wood furniture, and soft cream-hued walls paired with burgundy or yellow accent walls and coordinating cushions and bed throws. Suites are nicer still, and though they don't have separate living and sleeping areas, they do have small foyers in the entryway that give them a sense of privacy, along with huge walk-in closets between the main part of the rooms and the bathrooms. Suites have four-poster beds and sofas with mildly psychedelic throw cushions  covered with rainbow-hued geometric patterns. Suite bathrooms are particularly lavish, with cabin-style walk-in rainfall showers, second rainfall shower/tub combos with windows that look out into the main areas, and ample use of elegant gray marble on floors, wainscoting, and countertops.

Features

An outdoor lagoon pool, multiple all-inclusive dining outlets, a kids' club, a fitness center, and a spa

This hotel offers excellent amenities, with plenty for tourists and business travelers alike, including a gorgeous, sprawling lagoon pool flanked by lounge chairs with a small sectioned-off kids' pool at one end. The main Orchid Restaurant offers buffets for all three meals, including a huge breakfast with all sorts of hot cooked-to-order Indian and Western dishes (think pancakes, dosas, and French toast). A la carte Indian and international items are offered in between meal times. Room service is available. There's also an off-site restaurant, Earthen Oven, run by the hotel, located a three- or four-minute walk away (the hotel also offers shuttle service free of charge). For drinks, the Neptune Lounge offers all sorts of cocktails along with beer, wine, and light meals. Alternatively, Bar-be-que & Grill serves meat-dominant dishes poolside, with a regular selection of seafood dishes available and regular live entertainment during the busy season. Meal packages run the gamut, from room-only  to full board, but most guests opt for room and breakfast packages. Wellness amenities include a small, 24-hour fitness center with cardio machines and free weights along with a spa and salon offering haircare and massages. Attached to the spa is a small kids' club with all sorts of plush toys. For business travelers, the hotel offers three meeting and event spaces, the largest of which, Abbe Faria, can accommodate receptions of up to 200 people or be split into two smaller rooms for more intimate gatherings.Wi-Fi is free and notably fast by local standards throughout the property, and there's plenty of secure on-site parking in a guard-staffed lot just behind the hotel. There's also a free shuttle to the beach and shops in Candolim. Airport transfers are available for a fee.
